Let me rephrase. Does the engine need to be at operating temp to properly adjust the RDB? I've heard its good to adjust it right after one drives freeway speeds for 30-40 minutes.

My 2005 cdi had a SLIGHT up and down surging. With the lights on, you could see the lights dimming and brightening. Turned out to be the Voltage regulator needed replacement. It was compensating for bad brushes. New brushes and the surging went away. steve

Dang. I didn't think of looking at the lights when its surging. I'll check that out. Thanks Steve. Sounds like an easy fix.

Didn't have time to get to checking anything on the MB today. Ended up hanging out with the family all day. I've got a hot date with that Benz tomorrow.

I slightly disagree with the Mercedes Source Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin adustment.

I agree with the operating temp but obviously you would want to adjust the Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin in the same situation that caues the Engine shake.

The reason for that is that if you get your Idles speed up high enough things can smooth out and the Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin is supposed to have little effect on your idle speed.

Back off the Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin and adjust your idle speed in the to what is on the Emission Sticker. On My year and model it has 750-800 rpms. If the Engine is with in spec that should work.

After that slowly screw in the Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin to see how much shaking you can remove. If you start to raise your idle speed very much when you screw in the Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin there is something else wrong that needs to be fixed that is causing the shaking.
Use the lock nut to lock the Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin in place.

Concerning the idle speed it is possible that some Engines may need more then 800 rpms but if you go more then 850 rpms you sould look for some causes. The main thing is that I beleive some owners turn the idle speed down to save Fuel but don't realize the smoothness of the Engine at idle depends on haveing enough idles speed.

What I noticed about the newRack Damper/Governor Idle Pin compared to the old one is that the spring is like 2x stronger. Also the old Rack Damper/Governor Idle Pin had a lot of wear on the tip of the plunger.

The video is very similar to the rattling air cleaner that I had with new engine mounts, lots of vibration in certain gears when parked. It seemed crazy that it could rattle the whole car until I removed it and felt how much it weighs. I bet the front of the car sits measurably higher since that thing is gone.

I still think it could easily be something simple like that.

Thank you Rog.

Do you know a good place to order them? I google searched and came up with two selections one for $15 and one for $4.
