Need help om606 fuel issue

Have a 96 e300 diesel. Battery died I charged it and drove it twice. Went to start up next day and it started for 1 second then shut off and wouldn't start. Tried later that day started one more time and I gave it throttle and it revd up and shut off when I let off the peddle. Hasn't started since. Cracked injector lines and it's not getting fuel to them. The one line going to the ip looks like it doesn't have any fuel in it. Thinking something with the fuel shut off valve. Took sov connector off and there is diesel fuel in the connector.

The SOV is probably leaking and you're losing prime. It may just be coincidence that the battery died.

If you get any air in the system it will be a major pain to get going again.

If fuel is coming out the electrical plug your SOV is bad - it has internally failed.

Don't forget the o-ring on the back of the SOV, not sure if that is included with a new valve or not.

oooh, please let us know if the new shut off valve fixes your problem!

i have narrowed a similar problem down to the k40 unit, but my SOV will also open, then close right away on key position 2. I just assumed that the control device (k40) was the culprit, but I would love to know if the new SOV fixes your problem.

I had a problem with my k40 few months ago that made antithetical go off and car not start. I took it out and resold weed every connection on the board and put it in and presto it was fixed. Thought that this might be my problem again so I redid it and nothing changed. Take k40 out and resolder it. Takes like 5 minutes.

Ok update: hot new sov installed and still won't start, burnt starter up replaced with reman today. Bunch of air in the lines main 2 with air are coming from side of the pump. One line goes to fuel filter and the other to the bottom of the sov. I'm thinking k40? Pulled codes today and it's showing p0200 open injector circuit.

so I am having the same issues with my 98 E300TD, where it will no start, I have just replaced the k40 because my SOV will click open, the close again right after. the k40 did not fix it, and now i believe the SOV will not fix it either...

I have checked voltage being supplied to the SOV at key position 2 and it will spike to nearly battery voltage, then drop and hang out at .7V or so....doesnt seem like enough to keep a solenoid open.

so far, I have not been able to isolate the problem. we need someone with a good wiring diagram to be so awesome as to load it up on this site.....please?, anyone?

I am fearing the computer has taken a dump....but hoping not!

I have noticed that when the SOV does not stay open during crank (no start) the lift pump will create lots of foamy looking bubbles in the line from the SOV to it, i believe the bottom line. this was just another clue to me that the SOV was in fact not opening and creating the no start. it is unfortunate that there are so many computers on these things controlling such a simple engine.

I wish you luck, as I am in the same boat! lets figure this out!

Ian

Ok new sov and k40 and still won't start and air in fuel system. The 2 lines that can't build pressure is the one from ip to sov and th other is from sov to the filter housing

Air in the system is an oring or something leaking. It won't run with air in the fuel system.
