front steering parts ordering help
For my 18th birthday, my parents told me they would buy me some car parts. I will list the entire shibang right now, and the ones that they are buying for me with have a * by them
2 brake wear sensors* front brake pads* 2 ball joints* drag link* Injection pump rack dampener pin/screw* tie rods idler arm repair kit rear subframe mounts rear brake pads(OEM ones, tired of the squeaking) rear tranny mount rear differential mount can of diesel purge inline fuel filter main fuel filter Now, firstly, am i forgetting anything? secondly, i'm really confused as what on earth i need reguarding the tie rods. I found, tie rod ends, center tie rod, left and right tie rod, right hand thread, left hand thread, some other wierd one.....what do i need reguarding those???? Also, what kind of tools do i need to rent other than the ball joint press tool? someone told me the center tie rod is the drag link, is that correct? Do you think i should replace anything else while i'm at all of this? And lastly, based on you alls experiance will this significantly tighten up a worn out front end? thanks Ryan

oh yea, i have a strange clunk/rattle, clank in the front wheels. Seems to get worse when the front end is raised(IE going over hump at speed) and gets better with more weight on the front end(coming down over hump at speed). could this be wheel bearings?? if so how much are they and how hard are they to replace??? thanks
Ryan

Ryan, You really need to consider getting at least a Haynes shop manual for your car... it has better pictures on many jobs than the MB factory shop manual..or , if you already have the Haynes manual... READ IT.... LOL... Greg
Your listing of 2 ball joints is pretty funny... are you going to do only one side... NO.... so you will need four... two uppers and two lowers...but all this would be clear with any manual... I do think you should include upper and lower control arm bushings, torsion bar bushings, new or rearched springs, strut rod bushings,..... |

actually, ihad only really planned on doing the lower ball joints. I really didn't want to have to take the springs out, and to do the upper ones i heard that you do. Correct?? i have the chilton manual but it's for the w123 chassis, i havn't been able to find ANYTHING for the W126 chassis other than my computer cd-rom. any idea on the tie rods, what i need to do with them? thanks
Ryan

hmmm, just read in my performance producst book that those bushings you mentioned are only like 10-15 dollars each. Definatley sounds do-able, as long as i dont have to compress my front springs. Let me now refraise my question, What all can i do with my front end without having to take out my front shocks/springs? thanks
Ryan
