What does $1 buy you at PNP?

Marked as Thrift Store, Hazard Sign.
First one I've ever seen in the junk yard.
Had some rust but cleaned up nice.

Good score!

Our local guys often wave me off if I have maybe a specialty screw or other little part. I got a speedo cable-to-trans adaptor (I lost mine somewhere) a while back and they just waved me thru on that one. They charge a $2.00 admission and they said that as far as they're concerned that pays for these little things. On the other hand, I always show them EVERYTHING I've removed as I leave - I never want them to wonder if I'm ripping them off. I'm not going to sell my soul for a $10 greasy part.

One place charges for all of the little stuff even though they frequently don't know what it is. Another gave me a 126 window regulator with motor. The application databases have no idea what fits. Computer says only 81-85 fits my SD. I know that any 126 regulator will work if it comes with a motor. Good thing I walked out on the yard. The computer said there were no regulators to be had.

Jeff, good score. Now you need the plastic clip that holds it to the lid.

I have a few I dragged home but don`t remember what I paid for them.

Charlie,
Mine was still attached to the trunk lid with the plastic clip.
Took a little figuring out how to remove it. Had to break
the little center plastic tab to get it out. Used Gorrilla Glue
to attach it to its new home. New clips can be had on ebay for $15.

Did you make it to the yards this weekend for the 50% off sale?

Charlie swung by a week ago with a nice little 240D on a trailer he got for 750
off of CL and we linked up for a late dinner at In N Out. He and Adele
did a whole day road trip from Nevada to CA & back to get it.
Should have taken a photo for the forum. It was good to see them both.

Charlie just can't get enough cars!

I know some yards to avoid, especially a certain lady at the counter (owner?) who nickle & dimes every tiny part. If they are franchises, then they are in competition so going to another enforces the hand of the market. I also find that if you buy a lot of stuff at once and checkout near closing time when busy (usually go together), they tend to be more lenient. If you show up when the counter is slow with just 1 or 2 parts in hand, they will price aggressively.

I have walked away leaving stuff on the counter when they price crazy, ex. Ecology asked $50 for the "blue saucer" and related parts I wanted to upgrade my 1984 to 1985 tranny controls. Got it later for $15 at a local PnP. I don't get mad, I just say, "I can buy cheaper on ebay, crush it".

I show them all parts, clearly bagged. If they beat me up, I just don't visit again. They need me more than I them, and they crush cars faster than people can pick them, so stupid to over-price.

A guy at PNP showed me how to pop off those clips w/o breaking one of the tabs.
Don`t remember now how he did it.

No I didn`t get to PNP.
But I did get a whole lot more parts for less money that going to PNP.
It did come with a free 50¢ size hole in the upper pan about #2 Rod area.
A good clean body, only rust is bottom of both front doors where the Gasket fits.
A plus, is it has no Sun Roof just like my other 80 240 that is our DD.
Don`t see these W123`s w/o a SR very often.

That was a full day trip for sure. Lucked out w/o much traffic. Any one knowing the area.
Hwy 50 from NV, to I-80 in Sacramento towards SF. then Hwy 37 to 101 north to Santa Rosa
can be a nail biting adventure for sure. We lucked out, I don`t know where all the people were
that screw up the roads, but they just weren't there.

The only congestion was at In-N-Out Burger when I met Jeff.

Many years ago, I found two cased, folding German triangles in someone's trash, but they weren't the type that clipped to the trunk-lid.

I have read/heard that the trunk-triangles were NOT availible in the US, and were supposed to be removed from European delivery cars destined for the US, (though determined US buyers in Europe could insist the triangles be returned to them), due to some absurd reason that they weren't on the US DOT-approved list.

Several years ago, I sold a Euro-delivery 240D with the trunk-triangle to a neighbor, and wished I'd kept the triangle, as later-on some dirt-bag stole that car and torched it!
Since then, I found the clip for free at a P-N-P, and bought the trunk-triangle from another forum member for about $20, to add to my current '82 240D.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Still a good deal, I'd say!

I probably have a collection of 5 triangles. 1 in my car, 1 foldable wagon version, and 3 sitting in the garage.
