1978 240D lift pump valves

I removed the lift pump from my 78 240d with the intention of cleaning it up and replacing the suction and pressure valves with the rebuild kit, but what I'm finding isn't consistent with the new bits, or pictures and threads I've found in searches. The valve that goes to the secondary filter looks right (although the original spring is longer than the new one) but the valve and spring going into the lift pump doesn't seem to be there. I have the type of lift pump where the input hose fitting is horizontal to the ground, if that makes sense, and all the pictures (including the EPC picture) show the one with that fitting on the top or bottom. Attached is a picture of what I can see inside the inlet. Was there supposed to be a spring and plastic valve in there as there is in the other types of 616 lift pumps?

Hmmm that looks very different again from my non turbo pump

Refreshing the fuel pump on an OM617 (European spec – non turbo)

But I'm not sure from the picture you posted.

Your pump (in your picture) also looks different from the pump in the FSM - chap 7-235

x2. There should be a tag with p/n on the lift pump. Can you post that? Post some pics of the IP also.

I'll grab some pictures in a minute ... there is a pic of it in my FSM in section 01.4.1 - 235/1. It is the second picture down the page. Unfortunately it's just a picture, and it's next to the job description that implies both a suction and pressure valve. I will grab the part number though and put up some better pictures. Maybe it's just the angle of the shot that makes it look unfamiliar as I don't think there's anything unusual about my car ... it's Euro delivery but everything is U.S. spec.

Here's a better shot of the whole thing. The empty hole on top is for the primer pump. Will get PN now.

Definitely different than my lift pump, which has all 3 ports on top, with the primer in the middle.

Oh right I think I've got one like that

It came off an early MW pump I picked up cheap that I'm slowly getting around to taking to bits

Papa's got a brand new om617 IP to play with!

I haven't gotten very far with it this year of course...

EDIT - at the moment I've got zero information on this second pump I've got...

check p/n of LP with whom you bought rebuild kit from to see if compatible.

Army, that's the one. If you take yours apart, I'd be curious to know what you see under the intake fitting.
Part number written on the top is FP/K22MW7, but I can't make out the PN on the side ... looks like 2 445 103 094 but that doesn't match anything I can find online. I'm pretty sure the rebuild kit is not right ... the plastic valve won't even fit into the one end (which I'm not sure even has a valve to begin with). The valve is perfect for the other side but the spring is shorter. Weird. There are only two rebuild kits listed in the EPC, including this one and one with little saucer-looking things that definitely don't go with mine.

Since you don't have a rebuild kit, clean everything, put it back together, including the primer pump and test for leaks with Mityvac.

Please don't hold your breath waiting for me to take my pump to bits - though if the rain carrys on like it has so far this summer you might be in luck sooner than I think.

Whilst that part number might not give any joy the pump ID you found does give many hits on google...

It looks like the real bosch part number is 0 440 017 006 - does that help?

Thanks for the second # Army, I'll do some research using that number.
In the meantime I'll clean it up and try the mitivac.

As funola said it there is a Plate on it it the Numbers can be used if you take it to a Bosch Shop and they can tell you how much a rebuilt kit for it will cost.
Or you could "Ask Phil".
FP/K22MW7 is the model number of the Lift Pump.

I thought that a Euro Spec Car conversion to US spec had to do with safety stuff and maybe Emissions stuff. I don't think changing the Lift Pump to a US type Lift Pump would be on that list.
