I just want to know what they did to the 617 to make it churn out 230 horses. Either they increased its redline or they squeezed a lot more torque out of it.

Considering the turbo and non turbo ran the exact same compression ratio, it was no slower than a OM617 n/a off boost. The one in the video is a 4 rotor wankel.

I wouldn't exactly call the NA 617 fast.

You can Bet they ported it above and beyond what We have seen.

Apparently the Unimogs used in racing churn out 200hp, and IIRC they were ported to high-heaven.

The car driven by Jay in the video is the V8 3.5liter.

The wenkels are far too unreliable and maintenance needy to go on a car show circuit.

The compression ratio of the C111 engine was
1:17,0 for the 190HP engine and
1:17,5 for the 230HP engine

1:21,5 for the naturally aspirated engine and the stock turbo engine

Still sorting out your "," and ".". You Europeans make everything different!

So theoretically my 21.5:1 stock CR should allow me to lift a head with enough boost??!!

Thats all because of the Poxy 'Euro'

So its say, 10,50 Euro but we would say £10.50 pounds....

Dunno WHY they did that!--Gawd knows what goes on in the minds of those IDIOTS in E.U. Parliament!

There is logic behind the " , " over the " . " . a period can disappear if an original document is copied / has imperfect printing process where a comma is larger and tends not to entirely disappear. ( At least that is how it was explained to me. )

Probably for the same reason England uses a mix of Metric and Imperial / US units.

Theoretically yes. But what is enough boost?
I have several OM617A around here I know of who run 1,3bar-1,6bar turbo pressure.
One certain of them has run 1,3bar = 19psi for 500.000miles.

longer Diff, speedo is calibrated = ~136mph

So that pressure seems to be possible. If you run more boost pressure I would reduce compression ratio as higher turbo pressure goes exponential into the equation.

I would not reduce CR as low as Mercedes did, rather somewhere to 1:19,0 - 1:20,0

Volker
