Does the 722.6 in a CDI have a torque converter drain plug?

My understanding was that, somewhere in the 1999 production year, the 722.6 discontinued having a torque converter drain plug. However someone on the forum suggested that that was only for a few years and that, near the end of the 722.6 production run, the drain plug made a comeback. Can any of you CDI owners confirm whether or not your car has it?

Is it the 05 model? It should have one. My 05 e320 has one.

Good to know

Good to know except I already did my ATF change and went by what others had said that the plug was not on 722.6 trannies. I did not therfore look for one.

It definitely makes a change easier and you use less ATF since you don't have to try to flush the system. I know first hand from doing an ATF change on my '95 E300 that does have a plug.

I've got a friend that had an older diesel Chevy truck. He would change transmission fluid once a year. That transmission was still going at 300k+ miles. Another friend with a 98 E300 just told me that his has just started slipping at 332k miles after fluid/filter service about every 50k miles.

I have a 99 CLK320 in my shop that I know the entire history of the car from the day it was delivered to present. 325k on the clock and the car still has the original trans fluid and filter that were installed in Germany.

Transmission shifts as new and the adaptations don't seem to indicate its on deaths door.

Go figure.

Mine does NOT. I rotated the flexplate probably 20 times and never found a drain plug when I was changing fluid. My VIN is in the 7xx,xxx range of 05.

Hmmm....I wonder what the rhyme or reason is as to which ones have it and which ones don't.

I didn't see one on mine either. I still like the 12(14) Quart flush method and completed my second one on my vehicle recently. I believe even if I had a drain plug I may still do it the same way. The fluid actually looked pretty good and it was hard to tell when the "clean" fluid started pumping out. Now the "old" fluid is slowly being burned(one qt per fillup) in my 2002 Jetta TDI. Might as well get some use out of that old fluid!
