Talking Guess who had three (3!!!) 717.400 swap kits delivered today??!?!?!?

Got home from work today to find this on my driveway:

I knew right away what it was

My 717.400 swap kits had arrived from Lithuania! Aren't they so cute, nestled next to each other like that? Oh, and there's three 617 flywheels in there, too .

Here is one chilling in the living room armchair.

Everything is in safe storage in the house by now.

Of the desirable parts in here, (5-speed parts, 617 flywheels), everything is already spoken for, except for one 617 flywheel, which I can sell with or without a pressure plate and clutch. Asking $430 shipped without clutch and pressure plate, $480 shipped with.

I'm keeping one kit for the 300SD and another 717.400 + a few 5-speed parts for a 240D that will hopefully be mine soon. Everything else already spoken for is going to forum members .

I am going to be SO GIDDY all night .

Liqui-Molyapina:
For the ignorant (like me), could you explain what you have there? Is it everything required to have a 5 speed? It all looks so small, so I was having trouble identifying what is wrapped in the plastic. Thanks.

YES. Everything except for the driveshaft front half and the transmission mount crossmenber, both of which are cheaply and relatively economically made.

I hate to spoil your party but you do know that all those Lithuanian parts are useless on our US spec cars, right? I've been told that all the bolts are left-hand threads and the ones with nuts have right-hand nuts, making disassembly impossible. If you pull the oil drain plug from the trans the oil will drain counter-clockwise so you'll need a counter-clockwise drain pan. The shift pattern would be backwards even if you could get things bolted up.

You better send all that stuff to me before it drives you crazy (which won't take much from what I've seen). Oh, and send your sister to help unload it once it gets here.

Dan

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Doesn't take much, eh?
