Diesel Porn

I mentioned in my build thread that I had ordered a performance fuel injection pump for the Mercedes OM617 engine in Mutt the Race Truck. I went with Dieselmeken based on the recommendation of Jetmugg who runs a VW Diesel w/Dieselmeken pump and I know he can spank me badly! Anyhow, Goran turns out to be a great guy and a HUGE help and as we are both LSR racers, Goran has experience with what we need.

Anyhow, the pump showed up today! So my tail is wagging.

Pics:

First of all, this is actually a totally different pump from what was on the engine though they may share some castings. The ALDA (provides enrichment under boost) and other aspects bear no resemblance to the factory US Bosch pump. The engine came with an "MW" pump and this is an "M".

Here you can see the "elements" - sort of the equivalent of plug terminals on a distributor. The stock ones seem to be 5.5mm if the Internet sources are correct. These are 8mm - HUGE by comparison! Almost 1.5 times bigger, like going from a 650 CFM carb to a 925CFM. Diesels essentially make more power as you throw more fuel at them (within limits) so this kind of difference = LOTS more power. At least I hope it does!

I copied and pasted this from BangShift so some of it a bit basic for you guys but still good info. BTW - are the elements "mm" or mil"?

Thought y'all might like to drool a bit!

Dan
