OM314 parts sources?

Gents,

Does anyone here have parts sources for the OM314 engine? I'm looking at one, but would like to have an idea of part availability and prices before I decide to take the plunge.

Any comments on weak areas on the engines?

Thanks,

W.

I've never owned / used one but they seem to have a good reputation for old engines. Parts might be available via the Mercedes dealership but I'd expect them to be seriously expensive.

What do you plan to use the engine for?

Larger commercials / campers like these

and unimogs.

It was built for ages from 1965 to about 1990 - direct injection I believe.

Some data here in German =>

Stretch,

I have come across a couple of busses with this engine in them. I'm trying to determine if the engine is/will be a viable power unit in a bus long term both in cost of and availability of parts. I have seen some busses for sale with the OM 616 engine in them, but figure life is too short to have a bus with that small an engine in the mountains of the northwest!

I am also curious if a 617 engine would bolt up to the manual tranny in the bus. I have no info on this, but the extra hp of the 617 would be attractive.

I understand that the OM 314 engine is direct injection. From what I can find, they are robust engines if reasonable care is given them.

I have not located a forum for MB busses. Anyone know of one?

Regards,

W.

From what I've read the OM314 would be better suited for a big old bus than the OM617 even with a turbo. The OM314 is a good old mud plugger. If you want modern speeds (and want to fit modern brakes) I'd go for a twin turbo OM651 with a 7 speed automatic!
