That's crazy that it happened again! As for having left foot for the brake, and right foot for the accelerator, I wonder how much that would mess someone up if they started driving a manual transmission car--go to put your left foot on the brake but then realize you need to push in the clutch, so then you have to move your foot again and get all confused.

To those that say if a driver miss applies a pedal they are incompetent. Have you ever tripped / bumped into something / dropped something while while walking through your house? If so, you are incompetent to live in a house.
Speaking strictly about an auto trans car. If one foot performs 2 functions, there is a greater chance of " I'm not pushing on the pedal I think I'm pushing on" as the foot must be physically moved from pedal to pedal. Also, the chance of slipping off the brake and pressing the gas exists especially if the driver is only catching the right edge of the brake pedal. If they unknowingly slip off the brake and the car keeps moving, they are going to press harder ( on the gas ) hoping to stop the car. If one foot performs one function it comes down to selecting the proper foot. I'd call this more reliable and eliminates " foot slipped off brake and is now on gas ". https://www.caranddriver.com/features/how-to-deal-with-unintended-acceleration https://www.caranddriver.com/features/its-all-your-fault-the-dot-renders-its-verdict-on-toyotas-unintended-acceleration-scare-feature Quote:
It had been stated in this thread that driving with 2 feet will cause a panicked driver to apply both throttle and gas. Look at the test below, braking against full throttle at worst 37 ft longer from 60 MPH with more than a few cars within a foot or two. Also, if a "panicked " 2 foot driver may apply both gas and brake at the same time, would not a " panicked " 1 foot driver freeze and hold the gas down as well? In this case I'd be picking the 2 foot driver. The Unintended Acceleration Test - Motor Trend Quote:

You drive how you want. Most of the people you see driving through buildings and blowing through traffic lights are elderly people using 2 feet to drive.
One of the main reasons of using ONE foot is because when you panic, you instinctively tense up. If your other foot is on the floor, it isn't gonna be jamming on the brake while you're jamming the other on the gas. It happens. All. The. Time. There's a reason you're taught to use one foot to alternate gas and brake. We're not driving Model T's anymore.

Wow ~ glad to hear no one was hurt .
Concrete filled Bollards are, in my experience, the very best but kinda tricky to make not ugly..... Plant those suckers deep and they won't rip out when a vehicle smacks into them .

Left foot clutch. Right throttle and brake. Learn heel and toe and that is literal for the right foot on a straight shift.

Sounds simple but some never listen .
I taught my ex wife how to drive decades ago, some time later I rode shotgun and discovered she'd picked up all manner of dangerous and stupid habits . She's had collisions but refuses to learn .

Twice at my house too! The prior owner built a 30” block wall around my front yard after the first time. The second time an older gentleman fell asleep and somehow (it’s 10’ from curb to the wall) went between my Eldorado and crashed into the wall. How he missed the Cadillac I’ll never know. The wall worked.

Odds of a car hitting a house are low unless the house faces perhaps a tee intersection.
Years ago here a dad built a children's playhouse on their property. Unfortunatly a car left the road and drove into it with children inside. One died. |

With the advent of cell phones and texting, falling off the side of the road would be more common. RE: text while driving people use straights as a "safe to text " area but end up drifting off the road.
I've seen lots of instances where a car left the roadway. |

Yeah. But this is a condo parking lot...
22 spaces... My unit faces perpendicular to the road...
