Will a '79 300SD front grille fit an 85 300TD

Someone is parting out a 1979 300SD locally and I rear ended someone this winter and luckily only crushed the grille. Will it fit? What would you pay for it?

And if so, what parts are generally interchangeable with a 300TD (wagon W123)

The proportions are definitely different, either the 126 is wider or the 123 is taller. Either way, if it actually bolted on I think it wouldn't line up right.

I guess it could be a 116, in which case I have no idea. That looks much more similar to the 123 though.

I doubt it, the interchangeable items will include a few engine parts, light bulbs too.

Look up the grill part numbers. I suspect they are different but just not sure. Any pick and pull parts yards near you?

I have a fairly good one I'll sell cheaply. Not perfect but presentable at 10' or so.

There are pick and pull places here, but the chances they have any older MBs are very slim. Ive called around before and didn't find a single place with one.

But I found someone whos selling an 84 300D for $600 not too far away, I may just go and pick it up... Ill save more than $600 on parts alone Im sure...

The over all width of the W116 grill is about 32". The over all width of the grill on a W123 300TD is about 27.5". In other words, no, it will not fit.

I can't answer about parts compatability other than the obvious stuff like rims, differentials, glow plugs and some of the other common engine parts.

Regards,

W.

Get the intake and exhaust manifolds ASAP. They are non-egr for that year.

Also the rear Trailing Arms and Differential. Maybe the Steering Knuckles and lower Ball Joints.
