P0243 & Transmission Shifting
On my way to work this morning I notice the transmission seemed to shift differently, then I get on the ramp for the highway and I notice immediately the car is in limp mode then 10 seconds later comes the CEL. I pull over, plug in my scanner and have a P0243 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A code.
I had this happen to me a few years ago, did all kinds of checks, and it turned out it was a clogged catalytic converter, so I am familiar with the leaking vacuum lines, EGR & wastegate solenoid swap, and some of the other usual suspects, and will look into this when I get home from work. My question is, has anyone seen a transmission problem cause this? Once the car went into limp mode the engine would rev up, then the transmission would shift hard. I don't remember this happening the last time I had the P0243 problem. Thanks, Mike 99 E300D 194K miles |

After doing some troubleshooting I might have a faulty turbocharger wastegate vacuum transducer.
Does anyone know how I can test the transducer to verify whether or not it is working properly? I searched the archives, no luck. Thanks, Mike Nemec 99 E300D 194K miles |

In my experience, this will either be a bad transducer, wastegate, exhaust restriction or failing vac pump. If you back off the throttle after applying boost for 5 secs you can probably prevent the CEL from initiating. ECU looks for data every 6-7 secs and then sets the code.
PM me your email and I'll forward you a couple of files.
