1983 300TD wagon Vacuum Issue
On my 1983 300TD wagon, I had a problem with my vacuum door locks that was the result of a broken/leaky pastic vacuum line that passes through the door jamb (driver's front door). I repaired this vacuum leak and the door locks worked great for a few days. Now out driving I attempt to turn the engine off (I did turn it off using the STOP lever on the engine. Also none of the door locks would work and when I turn on the climate control I get only heat, whereas before I had great cool air through all 4 vents.
I re-checked my repair on the previously repaired plastic vacuum line and all is OK and I am getting 22" of vacuum from the vacuum pump. Power brakes work fine, transmission works fine. I tested the vacuum shut off valve with a might vac and it works fine. The shut off valve on the ignition switch is about 1 year old and is MBZ. Any suggestions? Thanks very much. I found the problem. In routing the plastic vacuum lines to the master vacuum switch in the driver's door I mis-routed the lines and the first time I lowered the window all the vacuum lines were pulled off the master switch thus creating a massive vacuum leak. Re-routed the lines, lowered the window several times, all problems (shutting off the engine and AC are now resolved).

Yay! At least it was something simple...

The great thing is I learned all about testing the complete vacuum door locks, HVAC, and under hood vacuum controlled devices. A Mityvac is a must!
