E320 Bluetec Dirty Engine
I need to get my E320 Bluetec engine washed
because when changing oil it had a leakage around the oil filter when I was road testing and engine got dirty allover. My older 300SD I use to spray engine cleaner and pressure washer 10 minutes later. Can I do the same on my E320? Thanks |

I do not know the official answer to your question. However, there are a lot of electrical connections on the engine. While pure water is not a conductor, dirty or contaminated water is a conductor. I am afraid of shorting out some of the electronics while giving the engine a bath. I spot clean with a rag and avoid using water which will become dirty water when it contacts the mess on the engine.

This is also my concern.
Those old 300SD is basically not electronics around the engine. I don't know if it makes any difference but I thought to wash with the engine running in idle. My engine mess was too big to clean with rags. |

I'm betting you could by changing your "technique". Even modern electronic controlled engines have pretty good water resistance as long as you aren't using high pressure. Just consider where it's located. So put away that pressure washer! Using degreaser and a light misting spray shouldn't be a problem.
I've seen many detailers use "No-Touch" tire foam if this still makes you anxious.

The connectors are all booted where the wires go into the shell. And the plug shells have o-rings. It has to be like that since everything gets soaked under there just driving in the rain.
So as long as you don’t go insane you should be fine. Sam’s club purple degreaser in a spray bottle and a regular hose. Be sure to take the belly pans off first so it can drain out. Puppy training pads do a great job of catching the oil in the runoff.

Will Purple Degreaser do a better job than Engine Degreaser or they are the same?
I did not use yet but I bought the Engine Degreaser, the one that make a foam when sprayed. Which one do you guys recommend? Thanks
