Rear ended my W123 at low speeds. My car is fine

Just wanted to share this with you guys;

I've been daily driving Betsie the past few weeks since the weather has been nice (I don't drive her in the rain as I still have a few leaks to chase down and I prefer not to flood the interior with water).

Anyway, during the morning commute I was standing still behind several cars in front of a red light. When the light turned green everyone started moving, but a few cars up ahead someone suddenly braked.

I braked too, but the guy behind me in an early 2000's Dodge Neon was too busy replying to a text message on his phone, and didn't realize I was braking, and so he hit me going around 15mph.

The jarring jolt was enough to throw my head against the head rest.

We pulled off to the side of the road and I realized all my blinkers suddenly were dead. I was seething.

I got out and saw his plastic front bumper was badly damaged and I was already starting to imagine the worst for Betsie, but when I checked her behind....Only a tiny scratch/crack in the chrome.

We exchanged information - just in case - and I pulled back into traffic and resumed my way. My blinkers suddenly started working again too.

Not sure what was up with the blinkers, but anyway: Benz 1, Neon 0.

Sadly the vanity plate "PANZER" has already been taken...

Hey, happy to hear that the results were not too bad. Dog gone people doing texting while driving are a real hazzard and they don't want to change their ways.

You may have forgotten that you turnED on your hazards ,if the hazard switch is on and you have no indicator flashing on your dash your switch is most likley dead. The blinkers wont work when the hazard button has been activated.Great bumpers on these cars, they made something that actually can absorb an impact , still be functional to make it on down the road ,and look good doing it.

It is amazing especially when you realize the bumpers are made of aluminum. My favorite is to see a person texting while walking and walk into a telephone pole or tree.

Probably worse than it looks. Once the chrome is cracked, you will get corrosion, and the aluminum behind it is probably cracked. There are also shock absorbers (at least on the fronts), that I think only work one time. In sum, you probably need to replace the whole bumper w/ shock mounts.

When their insurance calls, don't say "no" when they ask if you were injured. That is the first thing they try to get you to state on tape, then they can abuse and low-ball you, plus you aren't a doctor so are unqualified to answer. You may hurt tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have often had to get a lawyer to get anything from insurance. They try to claim the damage is just $50 and blow you off. Most times I was hit, it was by an uninsured and unlicensed driver, which is actually easier for me since I just deal with my insurance. The other drivers have never been cited, even when they showed a bogus insurance card to the police. Police are too lazy to get involved.

The 300D has an aluminum rear bumper? I never knew that. I don't know what's worse though, aluminum that snaps or steel that dents and rusts.

That I figured... My wagon one is broken in half in the scrap pile. Definitely no buffing it out with them.

Just thought they were all steel in the back.
