The City of PO-mona sent me an additional tax bill every year of $150.00 for " maintenance of trees " and when I asked ' ?! WTH ?! ' they said it was for the Parkway tree, when I mentioned there wasn't any tree and they didn't even mow the scrubby grass that grew there they said ' tough luck ~ pay the bill or we'll take your house ' .

Where I live now they planted trees in my Parkway the year after I bought the place (30 years ago) and never asked nor mentioned I'm not ever allowed to trim it as it grew huge and became diseased so I too worry because every year we get some high winds and a branch or two falls off....

The City Forester told me " just kill the damn thing " but refused to declare it the obvious hazard it is.
I am not sure why the City of Los Angeles CA has the tree issues in the parkway. I live in nearby Long Beach CA and the tree that was there when I bought had a trunk that if I hugged the tree there would have been like 2 feet between my Fingers.
A large branch broke off and fell in front of my House and I called the City to trim it.
The City sent tree trimmers out and the removed the tree entirly (the roots had buckled the side walk and pushed the Curb out some).

They never replaced the Tree which was OK with me; but last year they sent out postcards asking all the residents that had no tree if they wanted one. I said not and they only planted new trees for those who requested it.

Anyway I had a good experiece with my city and the parkway trees.

Side story about that Tree. When I first moved in the Schoolyard a cross the street had no fence and that Tree protected my Front Windows from the occasional base ball or soft. But, at night people would drive by and use the Tree for a beer bottle target or sit out their (the tree blocked the street light light) have a party in their Car leaving the Garbage on the Curb.
I found that getting up and turning my very bright Porch Light on would usually get them to leave in about 5 minutes. I think they gessed someone was watching them.

Before the time of the Tree removal the School built a 20 foot Fence around it and later put some Buildings in the area where Kida played baseball so nothing comes at my house anymore from there.

Obviously you don't live in Cal. or you'd know it's a *very* Conservative State once you leave it's major cities .

We have far less crime, less unemployment and vastly higher quality of life than do most others states so keel the trolling B.S. off this fine site please .

As far as Los Angeles, I was talking about Pomona, a suburb 40 miles East of Los Angeles .

Not tree related but I had buiding a planning site me for something. What I had to do was look up the actual wording of the law (no internet back then to make it easy). I was piss of to find they had only read the first part of the Law and not the whole of it and had incorrectly cited me.
I took it to court and won.

So you could to take the time to find out what the law really is on who is responsible for the parkway trees and if you find something that favors you. you can use that.

Thanx ~

I did just that when I tangled with the local Code Enforcement Officer after my drunken b*tch neighbor got all pissy on me and called to complain about nothing ~ he thought I'd give him a free car to go away and made the mistake of saying so.....

He's not working there anymore .

I'm still waiting to hear how the 240's I.P. works out .

The root topic seems to have slightly branched in another direction. ;-)
I haven't been afforded the opportunity to work on it since. We're visiting family down south. I'm anxious to purge the pump with a solvent and reevaluating. I'm a cheap SOB with a few quarts of rubbing alcohol. I'll soak and purge the pump with that. It worked really well to remove the sludge from the tank, lines, d-pump, and injectors. It doesn't damage or swell synthetic compounds either. Does anyone know if there are any synthetic parts in the mw pump?

I've never removed the IP or what's involved. I assume it's driven by the cam chain so there'll be a sprocket on the shaft. I just need to look at that manual and read some more procedural stuff from those who've done it before.

On a 240D the Fuel Injection Pump just slides in and out as the front of the Fuel Injection Pump has a splined sort of gear on it.
I think it is on the 6 cylinder models that that one of the Timing Gears is mounted on the Fuel Injection Pump Shaft.

i have used the "power service" grey bottle additive successfully on some small diesel 3 cyl injection pumps to free up sticking plungers and rack without dismantling the pumps by pumping into the fuel inlet with a pump oil can and let it sit overnight and next day a good working pump, has worked for me about 4 times in the past couple of years. Post Diesel Purge

This should be done as soon as you purchase any old Mercedes Diesel and every year or two as well as routine service.

Any ' Diesel Kleen ' product by Power Service is $ well invested .

Rather than dribble it in vie the fuel inlet you can purge the pump and injectors by putting a bottle of Diesel Kleen (or other similar product) in the engine compartment right next to the I.P. and connecting it directly to the transfer pump and outlet line ~ I like to install a filter in the return to bottle hose to catch crud as is comes loose and blows out .

I use a gallon jug and drive the car a bit, to work one day or on errands .

SITREP on the pump

I got her all cleaned up. She looks brand new, the rack slides smoothly to and fro, and shows no signs of hesitation or hang ups. I've yet to reinstall it. It's nice having it out of the way for other work in the engine bay right now. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and learn how to time the begin fuel delivery process.

Well, if anyone is still listening out there, I finally got the IP reinstalled
-timing at 24° BTDC
-stretched return valve spring to 27mm
-primed, bled, and torqued all new seals
She started up after a few cranks butI had to keep the rack lever full tilt or she'd fall off right away and stall. I wasn't able to get more than about 15-20k rpm at full tilt. Observation on soaking the pump: fluid drained from the altitude compensator so I suspect the diaphragms have been compromised. I gave the tube an indirect squirt of low pressure air which brought the RPM up to full speed but quickly fell off again. Do I even need an altitude compensator? I never exceed 2500'.

Remove the altitude compensator for a test and see how it runs.
