126 headlight connector question

Headlights on my daughter's 84 SD are dysfunctional. I think they are Euro's but I'm not totally familiar with the differences between euros and US versions. Not sealed beams. Lenses were pitted and holed and reflectors are rusted from water getting in the holes. So I thought the simplest solution was to swap in a complete set of headlights. Bought a set of US headlights from TomW (thanks)and started swapping them in today. But when I got the first one in, I realized the electrical connector is different. Externally they look the same but the headlights in the car have 5 pins and the US headlights have 4 pins. Also the pins are not in the same location in the connector so the low beam female pin in the existing connector does not go to anything on the US headlights.

Can anyone shed light on this who has done the swap from Euro to US or vice versa?

Thanks. I guess a trip to the junkyard for the US headlight plugs is in order.

Shame the euros seem to have disintegrated, their light dispersal on the road is infinitely better than the US DOT lights.

Well I just took apart the 4 pin connector I cut off the 126 in the junkyard. It's not wired the same as the diagram in post #2. In fact it only has three wires, a brown, a red and a grey red. However, the headlights in that 126 were not the same as the ones Tom sent me so perhaps it is a 2nd generation 126 with 2nd generation US headlights and different wiring.

HI Kerry, I believe the wires can be shuffled around within the socket. I have not done it but I believe it is not too hard.

Yes, they can. I'm removing the wires from the 6 pin socket which was in the car to the 4 pin socket I got from the junker and the lights are working. Switching the pins is easy. I'm keeping the six pin socket in case I ever decide to revert to Euro lights.
But I wanted to make sure that people knew that the 4 pin sockets used on US 126 models are not all the same.

I would not have known about the two styles in the 126. I am not at all surprised you figured out the pin thing yourself.
