Small puddle of coolant under the 1984 300DT this morning.

Near the front and on the passenger side there was a small (around 3" - 4") puddle of coolant on the garage floor this morning under the 1984 300DT. I checked the coolant reservoir and noticed the coolant level was a little low. So I added some distilled water to the fill line.

Any ideas where I should look for a leak? Or could this be an overflow situation and nothing to be concerned about?

Could be that short hose on the front. Most never change it. I would look there and of course see if the water pump is leaking. And check the bottom radiator hose.

If it is really at very front, you might have a look at the transmission cooler lines. I had the nut on the bulkhead fitting that passes through the radiator wall crack which caused coolant to leak from radiator. If you have a leak there, do a search here - I think I posted how I got it fixed.

Will do; I'll get the car in the garage tonight and take a look from above and underneath with my new work light. I'll report back any findings.....

Cold weather brings out the coolant leaks on my rigs. Could be leaking at a hose fitting, and the solution may be as simple as tightening a clamp. Could also be time to change a hose or two.

I have never had a coolant system pressure tester at home make the leaks more apparent so I have always been stuck with simply have to look and feel around.

On a 617.952 that about 2 inch ID by 2 inch wide Bypass Hose on the front passenger side is what leaked when I first bought the Care. People don't change them as often as the Radiator Hoses because you need to remove the Housing to change it.

Under the hose area of the aluminum bypass housing and the Radiator Hose at the Thermostat housing both had deeply corroded spots on the sealing areas. I scraped them down to the bare metal and filled them with JB Weld, taped over that to keep the epoxy in place and filed and sanded it back to the normal contour.

Also on that side is the steel tube with short sections of rubber that go to the aux. electric water pump. Any of those could leak including the pump itself.

Some members have had the Freeze/Core Plugs leak. Especially after a citric acid coolant flush.
