617 Diesel Engine stutters a little on start up.....

I'm thinking I may have picked up some water at the gas station. I'm thinking of using BioBor additive to solve the problem. Any ideas/input appreciated!

I'm sure you already thought of this, but shouldn't Heet fix an issue like that? From what I understand, you can use it on diesel engines.

There is gas line antifreeze available for diesels.

There are many pretty simple things that can cause this as well. Thinking may need a valve adjustment. Air getting into the fuel system. Or some issues with it. A bad glow plug.

Check the fuel lines and connections from the lift pump to the injectors. If you have the old style primer pump, consider replacing it.

I have a weeping delivery valve crush washer on #1 injector line and it causes the misses that start a few seconds upon startup then disappear after 5 or 6 seconds.

I'd start with the glow plugs.

Thank you to all for the replies/suggestions. I'm going to check out each and every one of them. On another note, I've come down with the winter crud/flu/who knows. Taking Robitussin which helps somewhat. I need to get over it so I can start back on these cars....

Thank you for the well wishes. Every winter the Urgent Care Centers/Emergency Rooms around here are PACKED with people with bronchitis/flu/pneumonia issues. If you weren't sick before, merely hanging out at the Urgent Care Center or Emergency Room may MAKE YOU SICK because everyone there is coughing and hacking! IMHO, the Urgent Care/ER staff should give EVERYONE face masks to wear so that the stuff doesn't SPREAD!!

There is something in the air in this region that triggers it. Whatever it is, some people have actually died from it. A friend of mine told me about a friend of his who came from Florida to this area in the middle of winter and caught the same stuff and ended up dying. Apparently, his immune system wasn't up to dealing with it.

As most men do, I used to blow it off but now take it more seriously; if it gets bad I head to urgent care where they usually administer antibiotics.

One thing about it; when you are sick it is difficult to do any productive work.

f you suspect water, take the secondary fuel filter off and pour its content into into a clear bottle. Water is heavier than diesel, if you see more than a drop of water on the bottom, you may want to drain your tank instead of additive like Heet, which cannot remove large amounts of water that you may have. If no water in the fuel filter, you may have air in fuel. To rule it out, install a temporary clear return to tank hose. It should have no air bubbles in it at all times, running or not.

As for colds and flus, whenever I feel something coming... itchy eyes/nose/throat, I do a nasal rinse with warm salt water and also gargle with same. I have not had a cold or flu for 3 winters now by doing that. In years past, when I forget to do that, I have had bad colds. You know about washing your hands after touching things and not rubbing your hands on your eyes and nose? That is one way germs are transmitted.

Thank you for the advice, I'll try out your suggestions on the 617 diesel and report back. Interesting you would mention the Neilmed sinus rinse, I've used it for the past five years with great success. I do it in the backyard because I don't want to spread any nasal infection into the bathroom sink!

Years back a company called Enzymatic Therapy had the world's best product for allergies. They called it Aller-Clear and believe me, it WORKED! It worked right up until the FDA decided that the pseudoenphedrine was "dangerous" and a "health risk" because some moron "might" use it to make meth. Another well known product, Drixoral was available at many retailers but also bit the bullet over the pseudoenphedrine witch hunt.

The FDA sent a lot of nasty-grams to Enzymatic ordering them to put the brakes on Aller-Clear which finally resulted in the demise of this wonderful product. Not to worry, the FDA has killed off many other natural products which worked really well for allergies in similar fashion. BIG PHARMA rules, the rest of you guys hit the bricks!!!!

I once got a half tank of water from a diesel tank. It was a real problem. Being winter the water froze into a large mass. I took it to a garage where they played a salamander against the area where the fuel lines come out until they could drain it. Unfortunately there was still a large mass of ice on the other end of the tank so it soon became inoperable when exposed to the cold again. So I had to take it in again and get the rest melted out.

I hear ya, Husky, on being sick. I've been meaning to do repairs on my '81 300D, but I got sick with what you are talking about. Started Xmas Eve, felt better around the 4th-5th, but have had low energy AND a nagging cough since. The cough is just now finally calming down, but I still get bouts of coughing, mostly at night. Understand it can take up to 6 weeks to get over. Ugh!

There is some form of nasty persisting virus out there this season. The wife has had it since well before Christmas and it is now only letting go.

Puffers for inflamed bronchial tubes and some anti biotics that seemed to do little. I even wondered if our late season flu shots this year may have had something to do with it.

From the descriptions posted I think this virus may be wide spread. I got a touch of something as well but my immune system is very strong.

The wife was so sick it really concerned me. So I mentioned to a nice lady. I am happily married but the wife is really sick. Can you help a fellow out?
