Looking for a filter and fluid list for a 92 300D

So I plan on doing a complete fluid and filter swap on my new to me diesel. I didn't see anything come up in the search.

Engine filter/oil capacity
Fuel filters
trans filters/fluid type/capacity
rear diff fluid type/capacity

anything else i should service right off the bat? PCV?

If you're looking for brand recommendations, this will be a lonnnng and inconclusive thread. My feeling is that anything new is better than what's in there.

Engine oil is 15W-40 diesel rated oil, Shell Rotella, Cheveron Delo, Mobil Delvac. Will take about 7 qts. Don't waste money on synthetic: these things generate tons of soot which will require the oil to be changed at no more than 5000 miles. Extended oil changes are not in the cards.

Transmission oil is Dexron, and here I prefer synthetic. How much you put in depends on how much you can get out. The pan holds about 2 qts, and the torque converter 4 or 5. My torque converter has no drain, so I can only change the pan fluid, yours may differ.

A quart of gear oil should do for the rear axle. Make sure you can remove the fill plug BEFORE you touch the drain plug.

What I like to do with a "new" diesel is to change all the little rubber connectors under the hood. Vacuum leaks will be the bain of your existence, you may as well avoid a bunch of trouble by just changing all of them. The parts will be under $100 at the Mercedes dealer and you'll be good for seven years.

You can't change the PCV flap on these cars (unless you plan on the huge expense of replacing the valve cover). But the rubber grommet is probably leaking, and that should be replaced.

General advice: it's 25 years old, don't go looking for trouble. drive it, fix it when it complains.

The rubbers bits being all the vacuum hoses? I would probably just get a roll of silicon hose like I used on my custom turbo jeep wrangler.

You can do that for the straight ones, the T's and multibranch fittings will likely be dealer-only.

End the prior post reminded me:

- any Dot 4 fluid for brakes

- Zerex G05 antifreeze. If you really don't want to spend an extra ten bucks on G05, then look for a precharged, fleet-rated antifreeze, which you can find at diesel truck stops and such places.

Whether you can do extended oil drain intervals with a good synthetic can only be demonstrated by an oil analysis. In my case I found that I most certainly could...I could do 10k with very safe levels of soot. But the main reason you may want to use a 5w40 synthetic is the fact that you live in Michigan. Cold starts will be considerably easier.

There is a small filter in the power steering tank, change that out and replace the fluid too if you see its old and thickened up.

You can use ATF or PSF - it wont matter, its originally filled with undyed DexII ATF and its available at NAPA autoparts if you want it.
