Your tensioner is fine.

I'm guessing it disappears once up to running temp?

When was your last delivery valve seal job? She's nailing..

I am quite certain that if you were to pull your intake manifold, you would find significant blowby at the intake valves on the head into the intake ports.

The valves get longer when warm and have lost good contact with the seats. There are members here (mostly outside of US) who have confirmed issues with valve seat recession on these engines.

it can sound very metallic at disconcerting at times.

Mine has it, but runs great. The worst offenders on mine are at the rear of the engine.

Best thing to do short of a head rebuild, is make sure injectors are all at spec and healthy and the engine timing is proper.

Having 6 cylinders helps this engine going pretty smooth despite this issue, but it does not appear to get worse at a rapid pace and is not highly detrimental.

If you have a headgasket coming up soon, definitely rebuild the head and tell the shop about the valve seat issue

that low power issue (if it isnt air in the fuel supply) can be caused by poor EGR system functionality.

block the EGR outlet.

then put a breather (air filter) on the intake that dumps into the intake. (directly on the bottom of the EGR valve, I believe)

-A really simple and effective upgrade for that low end sputtering and anemic response.

I dont think it is a head or intake issue. I had the intake off and the think was super clean considering the miles along with the valves. This thing has been well maintained. I bypassed the EGR as well!

Today I put in a new OVP Relay and it changed nothing. The tach has an issue where it works, but it shows RPMS way lower across the board. Not sure if this is relevant. This just began kind of out of no-where as nothing was changed.

Again, as I get into hgher RPMS is smooths out and seems to run fine. Maybe one cylinder has a pissing injector nozzle? That is something I have been wanting to tackle soon. New nozzles!

Delivery valve seals as already mentioned, or nozzles - similar thread to this on DV's recent.

johnbob,

What nozzles are you thinking? I have the same car and would like to just replace mine for preventative measures and I have 300k miles on them. (one of them seeps a bit).
But...it is hard to find anything but the India Bosch nozzles which others have complained have a short lifespan. I really wanted the Bosio but they cant get them here in the states for the non turbo 606.

I have a S124 and W210 both fitted with OM606, the first being non turbo.

Both have the same injectors and nozzles which are full interchangeable, even the pop pressure is the same at 115 bar although the US spec I believe is 135 bar possibly due to emission regs.

Both sets are from Bosch India, no problems as yet but limited mileage here in UK. All containers are sealed with Bosch hologram which offers some degree of confidence for the purchaser.

I a planning on Bosio injectors as well and I found them over at ID Parts. I am a bit annoyed as I hate throwing parts at things. I might pull the injectors myself and get them checked out at a local shop before putting money into them. It would be nice to get a conclusive "injector four was pissing" diagnosis so I can report back.

I just did the delivery valves a couple months ago along with all clear lines. I do have some bubbles in the lines thought which I hear from some is fine and from others that is is not fine. Any input on this?

Follow up/Update:

I had injectors rebuilt and balanced. Also re-did the delivery valves just to be sure. No change.

Fuel economy is down from the usual 30-34 as I now see 25-28. This is on highway and all. It pretty much drives fine otherwise. The car feels like it is missing until it is warm and has been driving for a while. It will also be smokey when accelerating until warm. Power is low in general.

I need to inspect the pre-chambers and ensure the ball is intact. I am also going to pull manifold and do a Diesel Purge, check timing, check glow plugs, and do a compression test. Car has been reliable otherwise!

I wonder if the fuel check valve spring is weak or not functioning anymore.

Check butterfly valves, two, one in cross over, second in manifold itself.

Could be they are stuck closed.
