220D Front Wheel Bearings

I'm replacing the front wheel bearings on my 72 220D and I have a 3-sided washer on the left side and no washer on the right side. Is this washer required? If so where can I get it? I have already purchased the new bearings and seals. Picture attached of washer. Thanks

Did you figure out proper seal installation (your other question, posted over in Vintage)?

Yes, you need that washer on both sides. Replace both - the one you have is pretty well finished. Check with Pelican. If they can't get it go to a dealer or call the MB Classic Center.

Here's a pic from the W115 spare parts list. #26 in the diagram. It's called "washer". The old W115 part number is 115 334 03 15.

#30 is "contact spring". It's got a W108 number that was superseded by W115 numbers:

108 547 00 85

I'm not sure what it's for. I don't think I've run into that part on the two W115 cars I've had.

You might have been lucky with that washer missing. It transfers the load from the outer bearing race to the spindel and nut.

When you find something like this it is a good ideal to check the whole car over. Especially the front end. Simply because of whoever did this is capable of even worse. Pressure would only be exerted against it when turning in the opposite sides direction.

Normally I would not expect the outer edge to be in actual contact with the outer race or whatever as it would wear away.

Hah! Another W108 number:

108 334 00 25

It's called "hub cap".

Supposedly it has to do with preventing radio interference, of all things. I always find them broken so I'm not sure how effective they are.
