Hi,

I have a 1987 300D. It has 225,000 miles and is Anthacite Gray/Light Beige. I bought it about 6 weeks ago from the local PO.

When I first got it 0-60 time was about 28 seconds and the shifts were grounds for a whiplash claim. Top speed was around 90 (downhill with a tailwind). With the help of the generous folks on this forum, it now gets from 0-60 in about 11 seconds. Top speed, I am reasonably sure' would be in line with the factory spec of about 127mph (it gets to 100mph pretty quickly). The shifts are also very smooth now. The change was made by cleaning the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the switchover valve and unclogging the orifice from the vacuum pump to the branch that serves the transmission.

So far, I am very impressed with the car. I drive 1000-1200 miles per week and have not driven my E420 since I got this car running better. I have even considered selling the E420 but we'll see. I like the torque that is available in the 300D. Above about 60mph, where I do most of my driving, it is very responsive to very minor changes in the accelerator. In the curves, it feels lighter and more tossable than the E420. I really like the way the car accelerates. Certainly it is not as quick as the E420, but it does have a nice steady pull that 'feels' powerful, especially above 2500rpm. It is not necessarily better but pleasantly different after over 250,000 miles in the V8 cars.

The first tank of fuel gave me 22mpg. After the vacuum fixes and changing all of the fluids and filters, and running some Rdline through it, I now get 29-30 mpg at 80-85mph interstate cruises. I am pleased with this.

The A/C would not blow cold when I got it. I put in two cans of R-12 and 6 weeks later, it could do duty as a meat locker.

In the next 30 days, I will do the front brakes and discs. I may try to tweak the wastegate as well, just to bring the boost to max spec.

I still have some work to do on the exterior of the car. I don't think the PO had ever washed it. Here is a pic of the car when I bought it. I have replaced the headlight doors and done a lot of buffing on it since then. I will take an 'after' pic the next time I clean it up good.

I guess I've probably told you more than you wanted to know but I've been meaning to document some thoughts on the car anyway.

I'm curious to know what you mean by "mine is tuned up so i was looking for people with a nontuned up turbo diesel ". What exactly did you do and what were the results?

BR,

Steve

my 83 300 has been modified with a 15 speed tranny from an older Mac truck. Engine is stock but I have tuned the boost to 106hg. I also have mounted 36 inch wheels and tires which has made the speedo read a little slow so I installed an air speed indicator on the hood. While it is slow off the line it tops out at around 515mph.

Sorry Bill, couldn't resist

I bet it's so easy on fuel that you have to stop off at the filling station twice a week to drain off the excess--

300D TURBO.

Please do us all a favor and, even if you did not make the modifications yourself, get us some detailed information so we can share in your awe of such a machine.

How about taking some photos of the engine, with some close ups showing the features you do know something about. If you could share some additional technical information, believe me, there would be a lot less sarcasm and a lot more questions by those of us who really like Diesel machinery.

The photo you enclose shows a nice car cosmetically, but it reveals nothing about the engine modifications you speak of, and a few additional photos under the hood would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Jim

I just modified my sdl and put a supercharger inside the turbo which actually boosts the turbo to 901psi. The car now does 0-60 in .098 seconds and the gas mileage has improved. It maakeds mi spell worsds funny tho because it has sooo much power my head got thrown back ionto the seat and brain duz not function quite ass well. For Gods sake if you are going to post at least get an english dictionary out so you get the words close enough and we don't have to strain ourselves at least trying to understand a bogus post!

300D Turbo,

Please, please, do yourself a favor and do NOT stretch the truth on this forum. These are a great bunch of guys (and gals) that do us a great favor by taking time out of their busy day to help a bunch of yucks like us. We truely would like to help you with any legitimate questions you may have and we are all willing to learn from others experiences.

You have already apologized once for doing the same thing you are starting to do again.

Please get to know your fathers car. Look under the hood and ask him questions. Do a little homework so you can answer the questions we have for you. You need to back up your statements.

Don't write in a capitals (it's like yelling), except for emphasis. Check your spelling, and for goodness sake, DON'T USE PROFANITY.

BTW. my great-grandfather moved to the States from Holland.
