It defaults to open. So when no vacuum is supplied it's open (unless for some reason it's stuck closed).

With the actuator left in place and the vacuum removed the flap will default to full open. Once the actuator is removed the flap will close unless removed or secured open I used a tie wrap where the actuator used to be connected the flap.

Want to make sure I understand what you're saying...so if no vacuum is being applied, it is open, correct? Wouldn't the same be true if that part of the vacuum system is completely removed from the car? No vacuum equals no vacuum, regardless of how it's achieved. Or am I missing something?

My understanding, based on the research I did when doing the wastegate mod, is that if you were to wire that lever against the resistance of the spring you would be closing the valve.

Here is mine in resting position… Application vacuum would cause it to rotate counterclockwise.

Yep, yours is in same position as mine. So we're either both right or both wrong!

I'm still waiting for someone to build an aluminum spool to make it real pretty.

BTW, thanks everyone for the info and the pics. I was pretty solid on my understanding of the wastegate swap, as well as the function of the EGR, but I just didn't get the nuts and bolts of the EGR. Looking at the backside of the turbo, I see now exactly what gets deleted and where the block-off plate would go, and the role of the vacuum flap. Cheers. |

i don't recall exactly what sizes i used but it was just off the rack stuff. Barb and Bolt both came from tractor supply i think. i forgot to mention also the backside underneath the EGR valve is another hole that needed to be filled when i took all the flap stuff out. Just used a fat bolt for that. Glued it all in with JB weld just for good measure.
