Walk away ,buy or run like he(( from this purchase

This Story has alot of twist so Ill start from the facts Ive learned from abit of an untruthful beginning.A local add was placed for a 1982 300d for sale ,add reads motor good ,trannie good ,Tires new ,low mileage. An hr and 20 min.drive out and I cant find but only 2 facts right about the car and that is the tires are good and the possible low mileage might be correct .Interior was shot ,motor has 2 freeze plugs out of the block ,frt end collision has the oil and collant leaking .The add did give some parts needed ,tlc ,but with a non running motor you cant value the motor then the trans. The real twist is I believe the low mileage detail is correct and was torn If I should return to give it a chance start. It will turn over but I feel the lack of fuel in the tank to be the issue ,the primer pump feeling flat .I can fix the freeze plugs temporary and try to pull it out of slumber then get a better accessment but the real pressure is the guy has a time limit ,hate those, feels like its possibly the right car but wrong seller ,if you know what I mean.I do like a challenge ,this one would look nice with a rare metal flake blue exterior in good shape .

You can't save them all. Sounds like a parts car and nothing more to me. This coming from someone who rescued a car abandoned for 10 years in a field...

Maybe if you could get it for $100 or so, but I wouldn't try to restore it.

The State of Texas does offer alot in such a wide open space for car restorers and enthusiest,If I do the venture I would like to snapshot all the cool places on the trip out to see the old mercedes .One ice house had decorated its yard out front with old american cars and trucks ,nice old patina and chrome does look rather good .If you travel another 20 miles along the 2 lane blacktop you find a shop specializing in hotrods with enough of them parked out frt you would have the impression it was a club meet. It maybe that I buy it if the price comes down alittle and store it locally till I have it road worthy .I have aparts list which most Ive got in storage (parts pack rat)and is possible with a 5 pound hammer all the damaged areas can come back true enough to set the driver light followed by putting the motor right with fuel .I generally have one project a yr,these dont cost extremely much and I get a kick seeing them back on the road. No rebuilt motor or trannie in most cases ,just needed tlc.

What a great attitude. You may just have some fun bringing it back to life. That's a good thing.

In your case, I think if the mileage was very low it would be offset by a number of other, more expensive problems. I would rather buy a high mileage car that was in running shape than take a chance on this. I think it is likely just a parts car.

The price would have to be really low, like double the scrap yard price.
