Canadian Vendor Question.

Anyone bought anything from German Canada Auto Part 647-878-9944? (they are in Toronto area) They advertise on Kijiji and seem to have good prices. I may have a need for a rad for my early 107 and other than dealers, no other sources seem to have them (part 1075010901)

I think a consolidation of parts suppliers is and has been underway in Canada. I sniffed around on the net a little and found nothing much about the German Canada parts co. in Toronto.

Prices on many parts have risen quite substantially. Perhaps giving them a phone call might not hurt. Depending how they talk to you and their general knowledge might give you some insight.

If you need that scarce radiator and the price is right. Plus otherwise is only a dealer item. You should be able to find a way to safely deal with them. Expecially if they represent a major cost savings. Many times when dealing with vendors on the net I smell other marketing arms of the really big guys.

The website I got up for them if it is them. Had that too sophisticated and no useful stock feeling about it. Some companies have no inventory and just place your order with some other firm and pick up some dollars in the transaction is another thing today. I was not even certain it was their website and it did not have even one customer feedback. You may find a member or someone that has dealt with them but chances are not the best.

Same here. It seems he is strictly kijiji https://www.google.ca/search?q=kijiji+%22647-878-9944%22&rlz=1C1CHBD_enCA722CA722&oq=kijiji+&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j69i59l3j69i65l2.9662j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Yes, so far I have used email and there is a bit of a communication gap.

You are right! I asked where I could pick up the rad and he said he would meet me anywhere in Toronto. So no shop front. I asked for the Behr part number and he said he could get it tomorrow. So rad is at some business it seems. I would only deal face to face and pay cash after I am sure rad is correct. 5 hr round trip, but our daughter & son live up there anyway.

I never found any working website. There are some with similar names. Like Germanparts.ca. I have dealt with them. They seems to be a retail outlet of a wholesale euro parts dealer (Precision).

Most of us have kids. You might use your son for this as he is in town so to speak. Depends on a lot of factors as you are aware though.

About 165 miles to Toronto I agree is a pain. Maybe make a day of it by doing something else as well when there. With the kids there a couple of days perhaps.

One of ours had to rent a temporary house in a really remote region to work there this summer. The house has extra bedrooms so you can bet the wife and myself will stay in that area for a few days at least this summer. The area is spectacular in some ways and since there are no motels that daughter probably will see a lot of company this summer. That place is Cape Despair in New Bruinswick.

The bass fishing in the ocean there should be pretty good as well. It is a developing tourist attraction expanding fast. It is so remote that the daughter rented a modern three bedroom house fully furnished with utilities for 500 a month close by. With the company picking up most of the cost. .

The wife also asked me if I wanted to drive up to Toronto this year as at my age it could be the last time we do. Not sure at this point.

I grew up there. About a thousand miles from here. Toronto keeps changing but not for the best. At least from my viewpoint. I also lived and sailed out of Port Hope for awhile. Much closer to you of course . I never managed to reside In the big house in your city. So I do not know Kingston well.

I do not think the radiator is any form of a scam by the way. Not enough money involved.

Hi Barry,
I spoke to the seller. Seems he works for a parts wholesaler but seems to have a sideline selling their excess stock. They have quite a number of different radiators listed as well as brake stuff. He also had the tranny cooler hoses that I needed. Decided to have them ship COD to me. About same as cost of driving there in our GLK at ~6.5L/100km if I add in lunch, coffee etc Just to conclude, here are the rad pics:

Looks good but I cannot tell if the outlets, especially the small nipple, are metal or plastic. On my Land Rover they are plastic and when one breaks off (and they do), you have to replace the entire silly radiator. Bad design from Land Rover.

A lot of cars, maybe even most? are that way these days. Even Mercedes 123s! There are fixes available for some cars. This is one: http://tinyurl.com/y9jjzzby
