What is a good W110 230 diesel worth?

How much would a 1961 to 1968 w110 be worth that has little to no rust and really good interior. It is a manual 230 diesel with good paint with just a few small clear coat peeling areas?

Supposedly drives good.

Whatever you're willing to pay.

Really nice ones now I think are getting into the teens in value....maybe higher. Rusty ones not much....parts car price.

I don't think there was ever a 230 Diesel? In the USA the W110 body came with OM621 engines that were either badged a 190D or a 200D.

I've seen/heard of people retrofitting OM615 220D engines but never heard of a 230 Diesel. There were 230 gas engine W110's. Are you sure its a Diesel?

My first car and Mercedes was a 62 190C. Had a blown transmission and as I remember I paid $400 for it in early 1980. Drove it for 5 years and learned a lot about car repair, overall it was a great car.

They are not terribly sought after by collectors, I'd say Toms estimate of mid-teens in really nice shape is about right. For that kind of $$$ I'd expect perfect mechanicals and very good cosmetics with a provenance of ownership in a dry area of the country. Value for a rusty non-running car would be parts-car range, under $500 for me.

I would not think you would be driving it all that much. So you might be better off with an early gas model. As a pretty constant in service vehicle.

Living in a small town or rural area might almost be a necessity today. It in just my opinion. Might be just too slow accelerating to be safe in larger urban areas.

It takes almost all they have to merge even locally sometimes with our newer four cylinder cars. They are also almost rocket ships in comparison to the car you describe in my opinion.

Right, a 230 would be a gas engine. 200 was the diesel. I daily drove a 1968 W110 200D for at least a year. I did not feel it was a slow car. I never had a problem merging into 70 MPH freeway traffic and most of the time I was flying past the rest of traffic in the fast lane. I felt like I was always tailgating people. It's certainly faster than a lot of econobox 4-cylinder cars.

I bought the car under the impression that I would have to keep it around town and that it would be too slow for freeway use (like 55 MPH tops). I drove the car home and couldn't believe how peppy it was. I actually had to watch my speed so I didn't get a ticket.

I even made trips across several states with it and it would do 80 MPH all day. I was even able to maintain 40 MPH or better up very steep grades without the engine getting too hot.

It was a really fun car, but the floors, rockers, rear section of the car, and firewall were rusted out. The driver's seat fell through the floor. The engine also leaked oil like crazy and smoked a lot when it was cold. I put over $3,000 worth of new parts on it but couldn't even sell the car for $1,000 so I parted it out and kept most of the parts for my station wagon.

Fintail values have skyrocketed, though. 10 years ago you couldn't give them away. Now nice examples can go over $10,000. The Pacific Northwest has a few but rust is an issue.
