Welcome to the world of exaggerated compressor HP claims. The most one can pull from a parallel prong 110 V outlet is 15 amps so that is what the draw is listed for.

If the nameplate says "Compressor duty" the HP rating is pushed a bit using things like a service duty over 100% , intermittent duty testing.

In any event, the compressor looks fine for your needs.

In that case i'll just get the old Curtis compressor. It costs less and performs the same.

Slight clarification on this post.

If you have the "standard" parallel prong 110 V outlet then its maximum rating is 15 amps.

If your wiring is 12 Ga. ,with a 20 amp circuit breaker and 20 amp outlets then 20 amperes of A.C. voltage are available.

Many shop outlets are 20 amp. You can't replace a 15 amp outlet with a 20 amp and think you are getting 20 amps and you shouldn't replace a 20 amp with a 15.

That compressor belongs to a museum. I wouldn't take it even if it is free. This is my opinion and my opinion alone. Others may differ.

Part of me believes this. But part of me believes it is built better than anything I can buy at the same price.

With no hostility, why are you against old compressors? How old is too old for you?

Really nothing personal. I gave you the best advice TWO months ago. DIY only needs a simple compressor to do the job you wanted to do. You made life so complicated for yourself. The old compressor belongs to a different era. The belt is exposed, motor or pump can crap out any time etc. Just not the right tool for the modern garage.

Went to Harbor freight, they didn't have one for $100.

Lowes had the porter cable pancake for $100 on sale. Tried it out, WAY too loud and the capacity is too small imo.

I had to scream at my brother to talk to him.

I feel there's nothing wrong with that older unit you were looking at. Sure its not new or shiny, but I'd bet the motor and pump on it would outlast most of the cheap direct drive crap sold these days. It says he's open to offers. Offer him $50 and if he takes it go for it... put some cheap wheels on it and call it a day.

How about buy a 30 ft hose and put the compressor behind the garage. I bet you'll barely hear it.

Damn, I already offered him $100, I'll see if it's possible for me to lower it in person.

Finally got an air compressor. Like all used things it has problems. I paid $40 for it.

#1 needs new drain plug
#2 needs new air hose.
#3 needs a new handle, the old one rusted off.

I can get a 3/8inch hose and a new drain valve for about $35.
Or I can go crazy and get a 1/2 hose for $48.

Other than that it pumps fast and quite(er) [than the modern ones] without any weird noises. It will get the job done. I'm pleased
