300TD third row install help

Has anyone done a tutorial or write up on installing third row seats in a w123 300TD? I'm installing seats in my '81 that didn't originally have third row seats and I'm wondering about how some of the brackets and hinges bolt in.

I think I have most the parts but having not looked at a finished install up close I'm not sure, for example, what the bolts that hold the plastic receivers for the seat bottom should screw into (see circled items in pic below). Are there clips that are supposed to receive these bolts?

I do not know from experience but I suspect if you take an ice pick or similar you can probe the carpet where bolts are needed to screw in and find your hole ready to receive a bolt, threaded and possibly plugged to keep water out. Once you find your hole you can carefully cut some carpet away before installing the bolt.

I'll be bodging a W201 seat into the back of mine. If anyone could show where the seatbelt and clip anchors mount that would be awesome. Especially the roof one- I'd like to cut the headliner only once!

I'll take some pics tonight to show what I am seeing on my wagon. There are cutouts in the sheet metal that align with where the bolts would go but nothing in the cutouts for the bolts/screws to thread into. But I might be overlooking something obvious (wouldn't be the first time).

There's different kinds of insert to put a thread onto a sheet metal part. I think if you pull the covers off of the b-pillar, you'll see ones for the reel and two of the other anchors.

The mercedes classic center could probably hook us up with some of the needed parts. I've got a parts car for some of the stuff, but nothing third row specific.

At least for an '85 there is an insert for a captive nut that is needed for each bolt that holds the seat in. I will share an album of pics I took when taking one out of a parts car later tonight.

I didn't look today but I'm quite sure there is a small threaded insert part which they go into that you position into place. You should also have a metal piece which fits atop the plastic black parts.

Here's my third seat. Ask away and I'll find out what you need.

Thanks all for the pics. My question is regarding any of the screws or bolts showing in the first four pics MTUpower posted (all of them except the seat belt pic)... What are those bolts threading into? Are there clips attached to the car body underneath there, or threads welded into the body?

Pretty sure there are removable threaded clips. Let me look to confirm and then see if I have any extras in my garage junk yard junk bin.

300TD third row install help

They are definitely threaded into removeable clips that fit into slots in the body

That's what I thought was probably the case. Is it the same with the hinges for the seat bottom section?

If anyone has some pics of what kind of clips these are I could try to locate some or fashion something similar.
