three ton JEGS floor jack having problems....

Filled the three ton JEGS floor jack with jack oil then bled the system. Now when I turn the handle either counter-clockwise or clockwise the handle doesn't reach a full stop. The handle will rotate either way indefinitely.

any ideas on what I might be able to do to repair it?

If you still have the exploded parts view you could look at that to get some idea of what is disconnected.

Other than that, my thought is you need to start at the handle end and work forward as you take it apart. Take pictures as you go so you know the orientation of the parts.

I know it is different but the bolt that retains the handle at the base of the harbor freight floor jack backs out and the handle comes back out a bit and it rotates freely and does not turn the valve.

Unfortunately, I got a taste of your pain concerning jacks.

The jack on the left of the pic I got from Walmart and was 1/2 the price. I was busy and never even just plugged it in to test it till 1.5 months later and it was totally dead.

It turned out the separate main power cord had been wired wrong from the factory and on the control board there must be some diode that keeps you from reversing the polarity. I did not know that till I bought the jack on the left which went on sale for Father's Day. I was able to look inside of the newest jack and see the color coding (which is different that US color coding).

I did make sure the newest jack got at least an up and down test. And it would not go all of the way up.

There are limiter shut off switches for both up and down and I thought the up one needed some adjustment. While I was looking, I noticed that the jack mechanism had snagged a wire. The snagging of that wire tripped the limit switch. Luckly, it did not break anything.

I epoxied the wire out of the way and today was the first time I actually used them to do some work.

They saved a lot of labor, and one came with a 12-volt impact wrench and besides the rear brake work I rotated the tires on that side which is why both and front are jacked up.

got in a hurry, under pressure and didn't follow the instruction guide.

I have learned one thing in life and that is stress can cause you to do stupid things. I have a family member in the hospital and I wanted to do some minor work to the under carriage before going to the hospital. Here's the deal according to the JEGS instruction sheet:

to purge air from the system:

a: rotate the handle clockwise until it STOPS.

b: Turn the handle counterclockwise two complete rotations and pump the jack 10 times.

c: Rotate the handle clockwise until it stops and pump the jack until the saddle (#36) is at maximum height.

d. If condition feels better but there is still some trapped air in the hydraulic system, repeat steps a through c until all air is removed.

it is is easy to see that there appears to be NO stop when turning the handle counter-clockwise. my bad and another reason when you are under stress to stop, back-up, take a deep breath and read the instruction manual carefully.

Fortunately, my family member came through surgery today with flying colors!! Good thing I wasn't heading up the surgical team though......

Real men don't read instructions. (Humor.)

The past three months have been very strange. Previously to my family member's health issues, I thought I understood quite a bit about health and how the human body works. The past three months have taught me I knew and understood very very little. There is a mysterious side to how our bodies work and function. I am still learning.

Despite the heavy science Medicine is considered an art.

I am at one of the hospitals where I am getting training in respiratory care (respiratory therapy). I monitor a patient with a tracheostomy who is sleeping, and the ventilator is giving him all of his breaths. The patient is not even trying to initiate a breath on his own.

Later in the day I go in to monitor the patient and he is disconnected from the ventilator and talking to the other patients. He does not need the ventilator to breath for him.

I speak to the instructor about this, and she said he is mentally dependent on the ventilator for his breathing at night. That means at night his own mind is keeping him from breathing on his own when he sleeps.

Some patients are mentally dependent all of the time but do initiate some of their own breaths which the ventilator lets them do. Or it assists them when they initiate a breath.

They attempt many times to 'wean' them from the ventilator. That means they go through a routine to build up the patients' respiratory muscles and so on so that when they are removed from the vent, they are physically able to breath on their own. But the mentally dependent patients seldom respond to that.

To me really odd but it is what it is.

the mind is a strange thing, isn't it? At end of life, I've seen two different scenarios:

1. those who want to die at home in their own bed.

2. those who want to either die in a hospital or die in a nursing home.

everyone makes their choices, for me I'd rather pass away in my own bed in my own home.

One of my neighbor's kind of willed himself to death. He way a senior citizen and he ate a good lunch and told his family 'Well I am going now' and laid down on his bed and died peacefully minutes later.
