What the heck is this seal / bolt leaking oil? Under glow plug ground w123
See pictures it's directly under the glow plug ground, and behind the vacuum pump on ip side.
It bubbles out about an oz an hour of driving, need to figure out what the part is called so I can replace. UPDATE: MY PHONE IS TOO SLOW TO UPLOAD THE PICTURES RIGHT NOW MAYBE SOMEONE WILL KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT WITHOUT PICTURES. IF NOT ILL UPLOAD WHEN I GET TO WIFI LATER YPDAY |
I am going to take a guess. If this is an engine that uses the loop filimint type glow plugs the ground for them is up front.
Below that on a flat area of the Block is a plug. The plug covers where the Oil Pump drive would have been inserted. |
Yes ur guess is correct sorry didn't specify my engine and year and all That but u got it thank u

The 617.972 Turbo Diesel Engines also have the same plug. They just don't have the Oil Pump Drive down inside. I only remember one of our members having a leak there. |

Interesting you mention that as my 617.95x doesn't have that "plug" however have the grounding bolt interestingly enough - may had been removed by later years though. I just remembered I took some pics when I swapped engines. First is a 1980 617.912 (which will be the same as OP's engine) the other my 1981 617.952. (yes that's a dropped banjo bolt in there)
As far as oil leak goes, it may pay to check the wear on the bushing for that oil pump shaft as well while you're at it, people have good threads here on them. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1506059340 http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1506059528 |
Ok so thanks guys for the info but I'm still having trouble with finding this part, or just the seal for it is what I would really like to find (money wise)
Is there another name for it? Can u point me in the direction of these threads? Or what to search for? Btw what is pictured in the above post is exactly what I'm talking about |

Leak is probably from a dried out o-ring. There are two possible locations of the o-ring, one version has the o-ring beneath the cap (120) on the thrust piece (124) and the second version has the o-ring in a groove on the thrust piece. Replacing the o-ring should stop the leak. Thanks dude.
