How did you remove the Thrust Piece (part 124) ??

I tried to yank it out with locking vice grips on Screw Plug (part 122)
It did not budge. Oh, and I did remove Retaining Bolt (part 123)

The Screw Plug was very tough to remove, so I gave it a few whacks with a hammer and socket extension. This possibly pushed the Thrust Piece further in. It sounds quiet now.

Sadly the 240's have smaller gears inside of the pump, so it wouldn't do the job...though it would fit...the gear and thrust piece will...hints to why I am willing to drive say 400 miles to get to the 240's..
Ahh, so you want the 84 300D 4Speed I have then... euro, of course, also with the m-pump, but oddly, it has the GMR4 compressor... I'll ask about the large shipping flat rate box.

When I removed mine, I didn't remove the allen head screw, I just used my needle nose pliers to pull the gear up. Like you said, you probably wedge it in tight. Only think I can think of is to remove the oil pan, and the pump...then find a thin rod slide up the shaft and tap it out.

That's exactly how I removed mine. Sump off - pump out - remove the locking screw from the top piece (I think mine came out with a bit of help from above!) - then knock / tap the whole assembly up and out of the engine from underneath.

I remove the thrust piece with a slide hammer. There are two different size threaded caps on the thrust piece depending on year. I have one of each that I drilled a hole in to attach the slide hammer. Spare caps are easy to get at the salvage yard. A slide hammer removes the thrust piece with very little effort.

If you do it this way you can leave the oil pump and pan in place. However, if your thrust piece is really worn you may want to look at the pump anyway.

Once you make up a slide hammer rig for this you can easily pull a thrust piece at the salvage yard to see if pulling the gear set is worth the effort. If the thrust piece is badly worn then the gears are probably bad too.

Turbo engines have the same IP shaft as non turbo engines. The gear has nothing to mesh with and is therefore not worn. If it were possible to order just the oil pump drive shaft a used turbo IP shaft could be paired with it. I haven't found a way to do it since Mercedes sells them as a set. If anyone has a way to order just the oil pump drive shaft I'd love to know.

FYI there are three different IP shafts used on OM61x engines and the turbo engine has the last revision. It will only work on engines with a bolt securing the timing device. Earlier engines have a nut on the end of the shaft.

at the moment, there are 2 60's dodge trucks in the yard, a 96 ford pickup, and a 99 maxima with a bad crank bearing... also, a 90 corvette...

it's a large piece of dirt, but it's not cheap... stupid forclosure bank wants 300K for the place.

but there are a LOT of low buck houses near me if you end up looking my way.

At that price, you can get an amazing place back in cali....its like here...middle of no where and you can't buy a house house for under 100k...
