W210 Drive Shaft Center Bearing R&R
Dealership diagnosed and quoted me $750. Not a chance. Bought the part here and will be starting the job later today. I've searched the how-to's here and there isn't one specific to this job. The most relevant is the flex disc replacement. Anyone have any specific advice on tackling this job? Also, it appears there is a line-up shaft on the rear of the drive shaft. Will that suffice in keeping the drive shaft in its original position once put back in? Thanks!

I only know the instructions for the ones on a W123. For that the Manual has you drilling a hole through the diameter of the bearing tube and out the other side. Then you insert a rod through the holes and the part of the rod that extends out of the sides of the bearing pry out the bearing till the bearing is out.
You also need to lube the inside of the bearing with grease. In the pic is what the driveshaft centering bearing looks like on a W123.

I replaced my w123 driveshaft center bearing and it didn't look anything like that... Just mark the position of the yolks, unthread the big nut and take the driveshaft apart. I removed the old bearing with a pneumatic chisel and the old one just slipped on when I heated it and chilled the shaft.
You can heat a bearing by wrapping it in wet paper towels and putting it in the microwave, it'll heat up to 212 degrees and no hotter as long as the paper is wet.

The center support bearing R&R is exactly the same as the W123, W126, W201 and W124 except that it has different shaped carrier and you need to remove the exhaust pipe and the heat shields.
Make sure to align the halves properly and not to overtorque the gland nut and use cv joint grease on the splines and the centering bushings on either end (after removing the jurassic era grease from them first)

There should be alignment marks from the factory. Double check they're lined up as it's currently installed. If they're there, you don't even have to worry about that.

Here is a pic of the bushing from a W123. There is 2, one on each end of the drive shaft.

All I got was a text from the Tech Advisor. Since I didn't do it, I didn't ask for a breakdown. But I do know I got the part from here for $12.50. I also got a quote to do glow plugs. Make sure you're sitting for this one - $1,200. Belt and belt shock - $441. Here's another good one - $240 for a shifter bushing. No wonder they have complimentary snacks and massage chairs in the lobby.
