No start No crank No dash lights

I have an 82 240d with a manual transmission. Until toady it started fine with no problem. I installed some LED lights inside the car using power and ground from the headlight switch. But The LED lights only worked when the headlights were off. I went to the fuel station and when i came out my car wouldn't start. If I cycle the key back and forth sometimes the buzzer for no seat belt will go off in the first key position but when I turn it further than that it goes off. But that's all it does. No dash lights no crank I don't even hear the starter solenoid.

Fouled battery cables. Bad Battery. Bad engine to chassis ground strap. Bad ignition switch. Pick one and start checking.

Did you install the LED's today? If so remove them. You've screwed something up in the wiring of the car. Put it back the way it was and rethink the situation.

If they were installed some time ago and the symptom only appeared today, then proceed with the other checks as detailed in the previous post.

your battery is dead most likely.

I would remove what you installed, but take pictures of it first.

^ This. Why did you wire interior lights to the headlamp switch? I agree, it sounds like you have shorted something out and killed the battery.

The battery is relatively new and I habe tried charging it. I installed the lights and it started fine 1 time. After I turned it off it wouldn't start back. I have removed the lights I installed and still nothing. I have the wiring diagrams and I noticed the headlight switch is in the circuit between the starter and ignition switch. Tomorrow I'm going to bring my volt meter home from work and start checking voltage and resistance.

You'll do better using a test light .

Meters often give faulty positive readings .
