B2 Piston looks fine ,whats up, the band played out?

I looked into my b2 piston issue today ,no forward gears ,removed the piston then tried to move the rod against the band, theirs no spring action at all .Is this missing something?

It is not definitive but with others in the past when that was the case it was believed that the Band was broken.

There is another piston on the other side of the Band but I can't recall anyone having issues with that.

Have another trannie in the wings and I was just hoping for alot easier fix with a b2 piston replacement. The noise it was making was giving a clue to the band itself ,it wasnt all of sudden like a b2 piston failure ,it gave out after a few clues that something was amiss with slowed responce and crisp shifting loss , slower performance .The slight whinning noise coming from the trans after failure was evident when in forward gears.gave all indications of band failure if you knew what you were listening for ,overview is to get the facts upon failure to zero in on transmissions issues. The b2 piston OR the band itself is the question on which step to take next.

Yes, it is tough to make a decision based on the few facts that are available.

Someone who has had the valve body off might be able to say if you could yank on the band more with the valve body off to be sure it is the band. But, removing the valve body is more work and I think there is ball bearings and spring that can be jarred around there. But, I have never had my Valve Body off so I cannot say.
