722 auto trans output flange compatible with 717 manual? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Have dug around the internets and cannot find a definite answer. I'm hoping this is the case because it will be cheaper and easier than getting the driveshaft modified.

The 2 transmissions are different lengths.

I'm aware of that. I have a manual drive shaft. Just need to know if I can install an output flange for the smaller flex disc from an auto onto the manual.

Defining "smaller" vs. a presumed "larger" by the use of numbers may prove helpful.
What are the diameters of the bolt circles that you are dealing with?

"722" standing by itself means automatic transmission.
The 722 series begins with 722.0xx and currently extends to 722.9xx.
"717" standing by itself means 5-speeed manual transmission.
5-speed manual transmissions include iron case versions built by MB, and aluminum case versions built by Getrag and Aisin.

Sure, no prob.

The output flange on the 717.430 trans has a 110mm bolt circle for the flex disc, and the W201 manual drive shaft has a 100mm bolt circle. I need these two parts to mate.

Are you certain of the 100mm circle? 90mm and 110mm are the familiar diameters.
As the 717.4 is a Getrag, it is not clear that a flange from another source, i.e., an MB built trans, would fit. A flange from a 4-speed Getrag may be the best bet.
The flanges from the 722.0/1/2 boxes were the same as the ones from the iron case manual boxes.

I am not 100% positive on that exact spec. I measured them both with an imperial tape measure and got roughly 3" and 3.5" on the two parts. In researching this I'd seen mention of 100mm and 110mm flex discs which squared with my measurements. I have part numbers of the flex discs if that helps.

The smaller one is 202 411 0615

And the larger is 124 411 0115

I can hunt for parts from another manual box, but I was hoping this is something I could find at the yard relatively easy.

If you were measuring diameters:
3" = 76.2mm
3.5" = 88.9mm

If you were measuring the chord (the distance between adjacent bolt holes):
3" chord corresponds to a diameter of ~88mm
3.5" chord corresponds to a diameter of ~102.7mm

If the flange were for a 90mm flex disc, the chord would be 77.9mm

You're absolutely correct. Stupid quick conversion in my head turned the 4"~100mm to 3" for some dumb reason.

Most important thing is if the output shafts are same diameter and spline count. The flex disc on the donor car will be verified when it is pulled.
