The systems you want to access are only available through the 38 pin under hood connector. Each system has a separate diagnostic wire at the 38 pin cn.

The 38 to OBD2 adapter is the same as plugging in under the dash so that won't be of any help.

The old " Red Brick" Snap On brand scanners had 38 pin capability with the proper software cartridge and cables.

but its $350!!!! if i spring for this one, i will make sure it's returnable. i have read about the "multiplexer" meters on other forums, and it was for use with carsoft 7.4, and that only works with windows XP.

This looks like a stand alone unit but to be sure, search for an operators manual.

A Star clone is about 1,200 and a real star is well. . .Have a look at page 3 of this Canada MB link. Be sure to read the subscription info at top of P 4 .

The above link is vastly over priced. I just picked up a foxwell NT520 with the MB software for $135 on eBay. After playing around with it on my W210 (38 pin) W203 and W211 I can say it's worth every penny. Much more capable than my icarsoft.

What else do you work on? I bought a fully updated Snap-On Modis for $900 about two years ago. Bi-directional control and a scope are almost must for any real diagnostic work.

Yup, the foxwell does all that plus some limited coding, SBC deactivation, bleeding etc airmatic test routine and adjustment among others. You can buy expansion for up to 5 brands on one device. I have MB and BMW.
