Any good quality car wash soap is good. Do not use dish washing detergent as it will take off all wax immediately.

Dawn dish soap is what is usually recommended.

By someone washing oily ducks.
Use car soap and wax it afterwards.

You can find real car wash product at the grocery store, drug store, or a car place like Pep Boys, AutoZone, or Firestone. Why not use the right product?

I bow to the collective consensus, use car wash soap.

Thanks....no clear coat....

Thanks for all the advice..
An adjuster came over to look at the damage that was done from a
hit and run, and he worked in body shops for years.
He told me that there is no or barely any clear coat on top of the paint.
He recommended not using a polisher, he thought it would be too rough
and just start taking the paint off.
He recommended just using a paste wax by hand, and keep that up.
Alas, I have tried paste wax by hand, and it smeared etc. I just don't
have the strength to do it properly....I think I'll have to stick to
easier polish removal and hope for the best...

Well, you can buy a liquid polish. It is easy to apply. If you do not let it dry too long, it is easy to wipe off too. You might just consider an Earl Schieb paint job.

Big difference- no clear coat or barely any? Did your car have clear coat?

Anyways- here is a spray on product that requires very little effort to apply.

No clear coat...

Well, I think the adjuster was trying to be nice...but I'd say no clear coat,
I may contact him for clarification. Thanks for the advice of the spray on
product. I wonder if after waxing, I could spray that. It that product washes off when you clean the car, or if you can use it every few months, etc.
