Adjusting the MPG Gauge

Awhile ago I thought I read a posting about adjusting the MPG Gauge readout on a W211 using Xentry. I cannot find that post. I have a W221 that displays 3mpg more that what the car is getting and thought that maybe the "'how to" for the w211 might be relevant.

Thanks,
Greg

Here's how I do it on mine.

Control Units
Information and Communication
Instrument Cluster
Control Unit Adaptations
Settings
Trip Computer Settings
Correction Factor of Fuel Consumption

Remember, since your MPG is HIGH, you will use a positive correction factor since it is reading fuel consumption as being lower than it actually is.

If I want an 8% increase in fuel consumption, to lower the displayed MPG by 8%, what number is used for the correction factor ?
+8, +.08, ??

Thanks
Greg

You would simply enter 8. IIRC it won't allow you to enter anything other than integers.

Thanks. My MB shop foreman said that it was not possible to adjust. Maybe a W221 is different? but I am finding that hard to believe.

Before adjusting, I'd be looking for a reason why it isn't accurate especially if you have had the car a while and this is a new development.

In general, a MPG system calculates fuel usage based on distance traveled and injector pulse width. If this car does not have electronic injectors, it would be recording injection pump rack position then calculating from there.

The system would be looking at fuel tank level to calculate miles to empty and might be looking at how fast the fuel gauge drops to trim MPG reading.

If the system only looks at injector pulse width or rack position, a leaky injector / poor spray can affect actual MPG but the calculated MPG will be incorrect as it is based on a properly operating system.

Thanks. I will let you know how it goes. Wed. I am going to the dealer to have the SplitView option activated. It was not legal in the state the car was sold in at the time the car was delivered. It is now. While they are in there, I will see if they can change the consumption factor. They say that it cannot be done. A week ago they said they could not activate the SplitView, but now they can...

They could not do it on a W221.
