W115 oil in the intake

Hi all.
I have a '75 240D I've been getting back up to snuff and have noticed some oil dripping from the rubber boot that connects the air cleaner to the intake. I'm hoping this isn't a sign of excessive blow-by but if it is I'd rather know sooner than later. Doing the oil cap "test" it dances around but not enough to get kicked off the valve cover.
Just trying to gather others thoughts right now and possible solutions.
Thanks

Guesses:
If it has the Oil Bath Air Filter the Oil level may be too high.

If it has a diaphragm type vacuum pump they say when they leak Oil gets into the intake manifold. There will be a tube or hose going to the intake manifold to the vacuum pump.

I rebuilt the pump and it’s working like it should so I doubt that’s the issue. Could be the oil bath but it has fresh oil and the stuff dripping out is black as can be.

It is definitely coming from the breather that runs between the valve cover and the boot. I have had the manifold off recently and inside it was pretty caked with black oil and grit. I guess my next move is to do a compression test and see what I've got. Other than this the engine seems to start and run just fine.
