Keyless entry?

Keyless entry...

I have been thinking about how to put a keyless entry system in the car. But first I have questions... Does the driver's side door have a vacuum selenoid? If not, do I just put a keyless entry selenoid on the driver's side door to then activate the existing vacuum system? Or could I just have the keyless system activate the vacuum pump.

Thanks.

I have a keyless entry system on my 1980 240d...on the trunk..... I have no key for it... so I can not lock it.... it is open at the touch of a button.... this is not the kind of system your talking about , is it ? I do not recommend it. Really low security . Greg

All I want is a system like my grand cherokees except radio not infared (infared is such a pain in the ass with keyless entry). I want to be able to lock and unlock my doors with the touch of a button.

If your car is like mine just wire a relay into each lead on the switch in the door. that will turn on the vaccum pump when you hit the button

You will run the keyless entry system to the vacuum locking pump... in the 190 I beleive it is in the spare tire well. All you need is a system that will supply power to the pump for a second or two, to allow it to generate sufficient vacuum to unlock all the doors.

The vacuum pump is under the rear seat on the passenger side. My worry is that there is no vacuum selenoid on the driver's door that will unlock or lock the door. The way I activate the central locking system is by locking or unlocking the driver's side door. My car has the older system in the 190s that will not let you activate the central locking system from the passenger door or the trunk. The newer ones will let you activate the system from either the driver's side door, the passenger door, or the trunk.

So from that I believe that it would make sense that the driver's side door does not have a vacuum selenoid going to it because it is always operated either by the key or pushing it up or down from inside the car. Is this true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, I see what you mean. I'm not sure if your car has a vacuum solenoid in the driver's lock. If not, here is what you will do:

Buy a power door lock motor, position it in the door so that when it goes up, it will lift the driver's door lock plunger. Connect this motor to your keyless entry system.

If you have a vacuum actuator in the driver's door, it makes it easier because you just have to run the wires from the keyless entry system to the vacuum pump.

Thanks. Where would I look for such a system to do this? I will need remotes, a reciever, all of the wiring, and the selenoid for the door. I would like to see if my driver's door has a vacuum selenoid... how can I activate the vacuum pump, there are 3 wires going to it which one is the activating wire to make it pump to lock and unlock?

If the driver's door doesn't have a vacuum selenoid how much would all of the components I need to buy cost? Thanks.

Just pop off the door panel to check if you have a solenoid. I'm not sure of the wiring codes for the vacuum pump. The power door lock motor was $5 and the keyless entry module with remotes was $40. All from Ebay!
