Moron Lube failed to install the drain plug of a friend's BMW which resulted in engine destruction. Moron Lube copped a plea and declared they hadn't done it.....
I forget the hourly wage they pay their oil changers, isn't it somewhere around $10/hour?? |

Last time I ever had someone else change my oil. At least if I leave the drain plug out or screw something up, there's nobody else to blame.

There are a multitude of reasons to either change your own oil. Or make an arrangement with a decent garage to do it. You should form a solid alliance with some garage somewhere. For repairs you cannot or do not want to handle yourself.
Over time establish if they are generally honest. This does not mean they will not present substantial bills. As the costs to day to run a place decently are high. At the same time you will probably get what you pay for. Or the chances are better. Why the bills hurt so much at all too many places otherwise. Is you forgot to take the vasoline with you. If a place is well recommended by others. It usually is because they have experienced the over the fender routine themselves. We have a chain shop in town associated with a retailer. They do decent work but the engineered bills they present have totally killed their business basically. Their head corporation spends endless hours designing and instructing them on how to get away with what they do. You ask almost anyone locally and they will tell you to stay away from them. We also have a disease in society that helps many of them to exist. Some people believe that the more you pay the better results you get. This is far from true if you do your homework. Two of the most skilled mechanics in this area. Charge fairly and actually are far better than average mechanics as well. Are a good example. Changing the oil and filter is about the simplest thing to do. With potentially about the worse possible consequences if not done properly. A word of warning. Some aftermarket oil filters are coming apart and blocking things as a result damaging your engine. It is enough of an issue some dealers like Toyota warn customers. At a place like jiffy lube You have to remember how important their bottom line is. Last edited by barry12345; 03-07-2019 at 03:59 PM. |

So you are saying that oil was added to the car but it all drained out in the service bay because of no drain plug? Why didn't your guy pay attention to the oil light / level / pressure warnings? |

Many manual trans went to ATF as gear oil just causes drag / loss of fuel economy. The other question is, why did you have the transmission oil changed? |

from what the mechanic said had happened. he took the motor oil out of transmission..flushed, put atf in transmission, new filters. new motor oil in engine..filter and diagnosis of the whole thing. the whole scenerio was completely unacceptable even if theyre a bunch of jiffy lube idiots. the shop manager of the other place told me to kick rocks and they did nothing wrong.

IMHO, we are far better off chaniging our the oil in our own cars. Take your time and double check your own work and you'll be fine. Plus, I like letting the engine drain overnight after getting it good and hot.
Bottom line is this: It isn't their car; after they screw it up they can plead innocence. Jiffy Lube? More like Jerk-off Lube..... |
