I'll try that

I'll try that when the E300 is road worthy, needs 4 tires and a windshield wiper.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

If the battery was severely discharged and then sat that way for awhile, especially if it was an older battery to begin with, it may indeed now be faulty dead, gas tank has a hole dead.

Lead acids don't like sitting discharged at all, not even over night, every second spent discharged is damage being done. Recharge as soon as possible to prevent damage.

You can certainly use jumper cables off a running vehicle to charge a dead battery. My understanding is that most automotive alternators won't tolerate running at full output for extended periods of time, they don't have enough cooling capacity built in. Recharge a very lightly depleted SLI battery in a few seconds or a couple minutes sure, WOT output for an hour + not so much. In a pinch I'd do it but keep an eye on things and don't make a regular practice of it. Semi truck alternators, which generally aren't much higher output than normal automotive alternators but are designed for continuous output, are ~3x the size of a auto alternator.

Good luck, FoG. I don't know your situation and don't want to offer unsolicited advice, instead I'll share my own experience. Moving out on my own and only having my own bull**** to deal with and no one else's was the single biggest and most positive change I ever made in my life. I'll live in my truck in a Walmart parking lot before I'll deal with that again.

Try putting 1/4 teaspoon of epsom salts into each cell, then charge. Be sure H20 is topped off as well. If that does not work , its toast. I have rescued dead batteries that way a few times with success. Some lasted for years after the treatment. I am currently running one in my truck with no issues. I'm not sure I would drive to Tahoe or somewhere very cold with it. Of course, the sealed batteries wont work.

Also, it looks like H8's are ~$120 at Walmart. Probably not the greatest battery, but also probably the same Johnson Controls battery you'll find at most other retailers in the area.

In my area walmart it isn't Johnson controls.

I'll just buy a Duralast Gold, my brother however put the walmart Battery in the SDL, so far so good.

Dang, GOING to do this tomorrow lol

Looking at this, if you drain, fill, and cycle your battery every six months will it last forever?

I don't have the money for a battery charger so can I just run jump cables from my SDL to battery while the battery is out of the car?

You can charge the battery this way.

It will probably take 15-30 minutes to provide a full charge. Your alternator works like a 40-75 amp charger while it's powering other things. Don't use the alternator to charge the battery for too long, especially if you also have your battery attached. Batteries with inequal voltages can sometimes cause problems with sophisticated voltage regulators. That's why the sophisticated ones aren't used in older motor homes.

But check Craig'slist. Battery chargers often sell for 20 bucks there.

the 20 dollar 3.0A everlast battery maintainer from walmart works good. It wont charge a battery lower than 11.1V (it will just error out). Once it reaches full capacity (also visible on screen), it will automatically go to float charge mode.

As SL320 said, just put the battery in the trunk with your other battery and connect some wiring (not too large) and drive it around, it will charge.

You might even use as much as a teaspoon of the salts per cell . You can dissolve the Mgso4 in the water if that makes it easier. I did not do an exact amount. I would slow charge. You can only do the salts once or twice, in my experience. It gives you another round, which can last. Usually, when the battery gets drained completely again, it will be dead.
