Does The Transmission Fluid Need To Be Drained To Replace Output Shaft Seal?
Since I have the driveshaft out of my 300SD, I figure now would be a good time to replace the transmission's output shaft seal. However, does the resting transmission fluid level reach up to the level of the seal? I'm hoping I don't have to drain any fluid to replace it.

You should be able to remove and replace the tail shaft seal with minimal fluid loss.

It does look fairly high up on the transmission, so hopefully this is the case.

At rest, the fluid comes up to the top of the pan. You should be fine.
