Transmission modulator for '83 300D

The new updated style comes in both green and black colors. Are they both the same? Will either work to update the original modulator? I'm looking for the correct one for an '83 300D. 722.3???

Hmmm....going to the sponsor for this forum, I come up with this:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/3304/MBZ_3304_TRAUTO_pg4.htm#item16

I would trust them more to give me the correct part.

It says it fits an '83 300D but the part number starts with 126.

That's a very common occurrence. Not much point in giving a part multiple part numbers just because it fits multiple vehicles.

I know but there are other modulators that start with 123 that are supposed to be for an '83 300D also so it only confuses things. And some are green and some are black which makes no sense to me since that was how they were differentiated before the newer style updated module came out. What is the reasoning for different colors now? I guess I'll just reach out to Pelican Parts for an answer.

The color of the modulator needs to match the transmission number. They are color coded to make it easy to replace. Match the color of what you have in it already. If you have green, buy a green one to replace it. Different transmission numbers use different modulator colors for different applications.

I’d be hesitant to buy anything claimed to be genuine on amazon. Likely it’s not.

I’ve even gotten counterfeit water filters!

Yup, I hear ya. It was just an easy way to reference them both for this post.

Many of the items on Amazon come from numerous small businesses. That's not a fault to slam them for. It's just that if unsure, sites like this are much more liable to get you the correct part.

Who "faulted" small businesses? The "fault" that was "slammed" was the act of selling counterfeit parts while claiming they are genuine.

My point was to promote awareness not arguing. Many are quick to slam an entire source for parts, rather than be aware that there are many sources on Amazon.
"Genuine Mercedes" is only the name of the vendor in the link.

Actually the vendor is not “Genuine Mercedes”; that and a whole lot of comment about the parts being OE is part of the title of the part.

The problem is that you have no idea of true origin, Amazon mixes parts pools, and none of these vendors have to be particularly truthful.

As I said, I’ve gotten counterfeit water filters off there... yuck!

The part may work fine. But it may also be more expensive than a counterfeit piece of Chinesium should be.

Caveat emptor.

When I click on the two Amazon links provided in post #1, "Genuine Mercedes" is precisely what is displayed as the supplier's name. If you are getting something different, it must be due to some internet juju.

That pic looks like a genuine Mercedes part to me. I bought one of those to replace my original green modulator (with the black rubber cap) - cam in a Mercedes box. However, I tried for 2 days over like 8 hours under the car and I could not get that modulator to seat properly. It’s got some difference dimensions or something from the original green ones. I had to revert to my old one. I’m still baffled to this day.

I just recently replaced mine (1982 300CD) with the green model. Do you have a gauge? You need to set the modulator to the correct pressure. (Some times it's just easier to give money to the people who have gone through the effort of putting together a kit with gauge and instructions. In this case, like it or not, that guy was Kent at source.)
