eBay: 87 300SDL w 606/5-spd Auto and Updated Interior

I found this while browsing Fleabay. Appears to be an 87 300SDL with the drivetrain from a 99 E300D and updated interior from a post-facelifted 126.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Mercedes-Benz-S-Class-300SDL/254305717403?hash=item3b35cd4c9b:g:CWYAAOSwydNdNQU7

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation to the car or seller and apologize in advance if it has already been posted.

I'd rather do a 606 swap into a lighter car and super pump it but that's just my cup of tea.

This one looks pretty damn beautiful tho. And at least the guy doesn't want 20 grand for it like all the other idiots who some how got a hold of the cars we love

If you were thinking of doing this swap, this is the way to do it. With your check book. It is a great value for the money compared to doing it yourself. The marketplace rarely rewards you for your labors when you sell. You do these things for the pleasure of doing them as much as the results. You get paid for the market value of the results. The pleasure is still all yours.

No affiliation.

Text of E-Bay listing below:

Well.... What can I say...?

This is a completely restored 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300SDL retrofitted with an om606 Mercedes turbodiesel engine and a 722.6 5-speed electronically controlled transmission with locking torque converter, each from a 1999 Mercedes e300 (turbo diesel).

The interior and exterior have been completely restored. Factory window curtains side and rear, European bumpers, headlights, and headlight wipers. Everything is mint condition. EVERYTHING works flawlessly.

Nearly every part replaced with OEM new, including all new suspension and steering components, new belts, hoses, vacuum pump, radiator, seals, gaskets, etc. etc.

Retrofitted with 560SEL self-leveling rear suspension and 560SEL anti-squat rear suspension (pre-1988).

Full ceramic tint.

Engine and transmission each have 126k miles.

Car runs like new. Clean, clear title.

Please contact me for more images, or more info. I'll try to answer any questions you might have!

This car is for the enthusiast or w126 fanatic, so the market is very...special. It may not sell, but if it does, whoever gets it will get a GREAT deal!

Thanks for the info. This is good to know. I was halfway interested, as the swap appears to have been done right and the asking price seems realistic.

I'd love to go check it out in person but it is way to far away from me to get there only to have some jackass try to play games.

I plan on watching the eBay auction closely.

Your post on the other thread "Did that heap ever sell?" almost made me shoot coffee out of my nose. I take it this sale attempt isn't his first rodeo...

My reference was to this thread: For sale :1993 300 SD w/ 606

It seems to be a common trend for people with superiority complexes to do a 606 conversion then list them for "sale" with no intention of actually selling, then walk around like their **** don't stink. It's basic economics, if you have something to sell, you have an idea what you want for it. List an asking price or **** off.

The 722.6 has both mechanical and electronic control. The P-R-N-D is mechanical (you’re actually moving a lever on the transmission) and the 4-3-2-1 is electronic.

The 722.6 shifter (at least how it’s done in the W210) has an electronic switch and LED module to tell the transmission computer what gear is being selected. When you move out of D into the 4-3-2-1 region, moving the handle slightly to the left decouples the handle from the transmission (so the mechanical lever stays in the “D” position) and the electronics tell what gear you’ve chosen.

I highly suspect they’ve gone and installed the aftermarket gear controller for the 722.6 and a mechanical IP. Trying to get the DAS working in another car is difficult since you need the instrument cluster, key switch, and the engine and transmission computers at a minimum.
