S124 shredded aux belt (my fault)
Loaded up the 124 yesterday on route to tip, watching the level while gingerly placing concrete blocks inside - as they were so heavy ended up aft of back axle, yes daft mistake I know - rough estimate around 250kg but still looked almost level.
Set off gently conscious of weight. extra braking distance - managed about 10 miles before dash light came, good old 606 carried on enabling safe pull over into layby. It looks like the power steering pump couldn't turn as brand new belt total shreds, got a spare which took an hour or so to fit then took a quarter of load to tip .. My head clac was 250kg = 3 large adults, but of course they don's all sit with their butss over the back axle..

Does anyone know the official carrying capacity assuming they have one?

I've carried 1,100lbs of tile in my 2001 E320 wagon and it leveled right out no problem once I raised the RPMS to about 1,600 for a minute or so. No belt issues.....
Maybe a bad pump or a check valve? I'm not sure of an official carrying capacity, but 1,000lbs seems reasonable....should be able to handle what the tires are rated for at least....

I don't see how loading the car will burn off a power steering / self leveling belt if everything is working properly. At most, the pressure relief should open to limit pressure.
There should be a weight capacity tank on the door jamb / gas fill lid. Still , 250 KG / 550 LB and hardly a break the car overload. 4 people in the car / 150 LB in trunk / 200 LB trailer tongue weight would probably get you the same rear axle weight. |

The SLS system seems to work well, flushed out old fluid couple of years ago and apart from odd pipe fatigue it goes up/down when manually activated.
With the new belt it has been fine, ironically I had only just swapped out for a brand new Bosch putting the old one as a spare - all seems okay for now. 1,100ilbs, half a ton in kg - impressive.

Thinking this through plus the comments above, it's probably more likely to be a weak tensioner spring causing the belt to slip, everything else has been changed.
If the pressure was that high surely the valve would release or even the rubber spheres to let go?
