1984 300D: trunk lock problems.
The trunk lock on the 1984 300D is acting up. Normally, I simply spray it with some special lock lubricant and it starts opening and closing normally. Yesterday it refused to open. I located the emergency cable release underneath the back seat and was able to open the trunk. Now, however, it has locked up again.
I'm thinking perhaps I need to purchase a new trunk lock from MB? |

Get one from a salvage yard unless the dealer can vin# key it.

Most don't have the Pull Cable. Out of curiosity does your car have the anti-theft alarm system? Since I had bought the car I never had a Key for the Trunk and finally remedied that by getting a used Trunk Lock assembly on eBay. In your case that would mean having a separate key. In addition my Ignition Lock Tumbler also fell apart and the new one has different keys none of the keys I am using came with the car except the one for the drivers door.

So my trunk got sticky on my SD. If I recall right the tab or locking hook got worn and it didn’t retract far enough back to release the lid. It would jam up and cause stress. I recall I was able to loosen things up and move the bits around so it was more prone to releasing. THe hook has to clear the hole in the little tab. I also did some bending of the tab on the trunk using a crescent wrench to aid in releasing. I probably moved it less than 1mm and it fixed the problem.

Yes the car has an anti-theft alarm system. Interestingly, this morning I opened the trunk using the cable pull then sprayed the lock assembly with lock lube. So far the trunk is opening properly but I can't count on it to continue to work properly. I guess I need to source a new lock.

Bought a generic choke cable and installed it as a pull cable but after about 4 years it bound up and would no longer work. Likely I went to cheap on the cable. Of course now that I changed the Trunk Lock it is no longer an issue.

Go under front passenger carpet remove plastic wire/hose protector, locate the 4 hose cluster with all green stripes, connect vaccum pump to the end with only one hose(after removing hose, of course)and hopefully it will pop the trunk,It worked for me!
