Simple exhaust question
Hello all....my first post after reading a lot on the site.i really haven't found an answer online So figured I'd post on here.
I have an 81 300d that drives like a brand new vehicle. And a 240d of the same year that slowly became a parts car. While driving the 300 the exhaust has began to rattle up at the bend next to the manifold and........ The other day the muffler simply fell off. Instead of cutting the muffler from the 240 and ruining the pipe and all. I was wondering if i could simply take the exhaust from the 240 and bolt it in the 300? Any difference in length? After cross referencing the parts both vehicles have the same center and rear mufflers. Any input would be greatly appreciated as having no muffler is kinda loud while off idle. Iv seriously thought about just straight piping it to get the same free flow performance but I'd like it to be quiet again ![]() |

Well i would just put it on to see...but the 300 is my dd. I would hate to do all that work just to find out the muffler winds up being to far too the left our right.

Touche my good man. Lol
The reason I'm unsure about measuring is im not sure if i could tell if the muffler would fit in the heat shield like the factory with The slight curves. The 300 is noticeably larger with electric sunroof and windows. The 240 is smaller and more rounder and muscle car looking, with no sunroof and manual windows. Both have vacuum only controlled trans with 1st gear and no passenger mirror. Last edited by Willster; 11-09-2019 at 07:40 PM. |
